The Competition Committee is pleased to announce the Mason-Dixon retro Schedule for the 2010-11 season.
Before we discuss the new season, a big congrats to last years champs. Randy Kohr won five of the twelve Pro races as well as ten Retro East events. To say he had a banner year would be an understatement. Randy also won the overall Retro East title as well. Bob Young won two of the six GT Coupe Amateur events on the way to his GT Coupe Amateur Championship. Bob also finished fourth in the Pro points. Randy and Bob also represented Mason-Dixon very well at the R4 in March.
We have decided to expand the series from six events to eight events this season. Eight GT Coupe Amateur events will decide the Amateur Championship this season. Eight Can-Am, five GT Coupe Pro, and three F1 events will decide the RetroPro Championship.
New to the series this year is the F1 cars which will be raced twice at Gaithersburg, and once at DT Hobbies. We tested the F1 cars at DT Hobbies a few weeks ago with lap times in the 5.2 range. Our guess at Gaithersburg is to see the F1s qualify in the 4.1 to 4.2 range; should make an interesting event. Also, we are looking forward to racing on the new Gerding flat track at NJ Speed Zone. We will race GT Coupe Pros on the new flat track at Speed Zone.
Last season we had 32 Pros and 29 Amateurs sign in and race with us in our first season. We are looking forward to a bigger turn-out this season. I can personally tell you its a lot of work putting together a series like this. We are lucky to have great track owners/managers like Mimi Wong (Gaithersburg), Donnie Teal (DT Hobbies), and Mike Iles & Jay Kisling (Speedzone) supporting our series.
Please post any questions you have pertaining to the series here on the Slotblog.
We look forward to seeing you at the Mason-Dixon Retro opener at DT Hobbies on October 2, 2010.

I reviewed the IRRA rules and could not come up with an answer to this question;
In IRRA racing what constitutes a PRO and Amateur racing class. In the USRA a PRO is a racer with factory support, an Amateur is anyone who doesn't have factory support. So when you have an Amateur and PRO GT Coupe class what does that mean? Also, in the USRA any Amateur may run in a PRO class but no PRO may run in an Amateur class. Is this the same in the IRRA. I chose to ask you this question as I may have a chance to run in the Mason Dixon series this year.
Thank you Fred

Fred, when we formed Mason Dixon Retro, we wanted to give some of the newer guys a chance to run without some of the big guns in the race. If you have a podium finish in a IRRA Gt Coupe Pro or Can Am event you may be deemed by the competition committee as a Pro. So far, the Amateurs have put on some good races, we are very happy with that class. Last years Champion on GT C Amateur, Bob Young, has automatically been moved to Pro status. I believe we may be the only series that has an Amateur class at this point. Also, you are correct, an Amateur can enter and compete with the Pro's in GT Coupe and Can Am. We think the battle for the Mason Dixon Retro Amateur Championship this season will be a fierce one . We hope you can join us at some events.
