Mark,

This just in.

From Big Mike and Larry Langdon. You have to drive a Retro Car around the King track at Skidmarks. For Retro Cars there is no such thing as a punch bowl. The IRRA guys are also talking about lowering the track voltage to 12 volts for Retro Racing making the cars easier to drive. There is also some wanting spec. tires. This is aimed at getting more racers involved and keeping them involved.

Regards,
Greg

Yup...

Can't punch a retro car on a Gerding King...

I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for the IRRA to mandate lower power, or spec tires... ;) :laugh2:

Been there... :o

OK my two cents.

Membership dues for what? Website, your pockets, what? That really doesn't encourage out of town racers to come race. Why would anyone who might take a trip want to add another $10 or whatever your membership fees are to the cost of a race weekend? Same for someone who only races at their local track. Why would they want to pay membership dues for maybe a one time deal?

My suggestion would be to add a $1 or 2 to the race entry fees to cover any admistrative needs, website or whatever.

I nominate Mopar Rob as President of the BoD. lol

Rob

I have competed in in traveling series that charged membership dues. No big deal. Hey, you have to spend that much on tires for your F1 car. Oh, I forgot... :laugh2:

Besides, I think Greg was just throwing around some ideas at this point.

Perhaps you can apply your logic to forming a Chicago-based retro series... ;) That is, if you can tear the lads away from their ISRA cars...

Rob,

All Michigan Retro Racing Association Membership Fees would go only into a points fund Like the Retro East points system.and thus directly back to the racers at the end of every year. Out of state racers not racing for points would not pay any dues. Just pay race and pit fees, open box, pass tech, hook up controler, place car on track, and let the fun begin.

Been there done that.

Was involved with running the Scale Racing Series in Chicago. Series ran for 17 years. Two basic classes , Open Group 12 and 1/32 Euro Wasp. We spelled out exactly in the rules what the entrant fee was and how much went to the track and and how much went for end of the year race plaques and adminstrative fees for postage to send people rules and such, who weren't computer savy. Nothing went into the pockets of those who were running it? We did it to promote slotracing. More than I could say for other series that have run in Chicago.

Had some Wisconsin series that would hit some of the Northern Illinois tracks. One had membership dues. Sometimes I would pay to do a one off deal on one of my favorite tracks ( Larry's LTD for sale elsewhere on Slotblog ) Sometimes I wouldn't. Everytime I was annoyed at the thought of paying 66% of the race fee for membership to do one race at one facility. Other local racers felt the same an usually woudn't race.

ISRA lads seem to have their own issues from what I read on the blogs?

IMHO... I wouldn't bother with race prizes, or point funds.

Make it KISS...

Michigan retro series

Proposed series

race 1 sept 26 M&t raceway jackson,mi king g-2

race 2 oct 24 Slot car crossing holly, mi Hill Climb

race 3 nov 21 skidmarks flint, mi king

race 4 dec 12 boogie speedway jackson,mi Hill Climb

race 5 jan 23 t.s.s belville, mi Corner Climb Can am UK Black F-1

The series will start with 5 tracks and run 5 months

New raceways may enter the series starting in the spring series and must show series support with racers

All dates do not conflict with any other series including Boogie/Tss series, TSS retro series And Ohio retro series

The races are on sunday so the series does not conflict with the saturday programs of the raceways involved and so the track owners can race in the series also.

This is just a proposal ! All dates must still be confirmed with the raceways but they are the ones that will work best for everyone!

This leaves the month of august to iron out the details of the series like points, entry fees and directors

Thanks, jeremy

I can make the majority of those races.

Other than the track in Grandville, MI what other commercial tracks are aound?

By the way, one of the guys from the Grandville track said that it is next to an indoor R/C dirt
track.

Now, I know why they don't allow glue. lol I bet that is a mess to race on!

By the way, Jeremy would be a good person to have on the BoD. From my brief time with him. . . He is even handed, local and supportive of all slot racing!

Greg is a given due to his technical abilities.

ok now that im back on here i can put in my two cents worth too. After talking with the 4 main players on this issue I say John Miller to run the series hes the new guy and very easy to get along with and he has no "home track" to show loyalty to. greg to be the tech director, and mark to take care of the publicity and talk to the raceways about dates and such. I'm not real sure but i think that jeremy may take care of the treasury if no one of the other three want the added work. And just to set the record straight just because its a gerding king DONT MEAN ITS A PUNCH BOWL YOU STILL NEED SKILLS TO DRIVE THE CARS!!! IMHO id reather race on a fast smooth "punch bowl" than a toilet bowl. As far as membership dues 10.00 is affordable for EVERYONE and if you only race 1 race the guy who wins the series im sure will thank you.

It would appear that Michigan is on its way to becoming a major player on the retro scene... ;)

And, with two successful series in Ohio... the midwest region is looking even more dominant.

M&T and Skidmarks have Gerding King Tracks M&T's is G2 Skidmarks is G8.
Boggie has a Hill Climb 150-155 Ft.
Slot Car Crossing in Holley has a Hill Climb 135 ft.
TSS has the Corner Climb that you ran on before and an extended UK black flat track.

M&T, TSS, and Slot car crossing also have Oval Tracks if there is any interst in Retro Stock Cars.

Looking forward to seeing you at the races.

thanks dave, i do appreciate it and sorry i cant make it on sunday but my wife would kill me if i went to the race and she dont get her new driveway and sidewalk. I must say that if your going to build a true slot car you MUST do it with precision! now that jeremy and i have sat and talked i think that michigan retro series will be in good hands as greg will be the director, treasurer, and tech guy. jeremy wyant will do the race format and operation procedure and hopefully john miller will do the promoting and race reports, he's a natural and there some of the best reports ive seen around jeremy will be updating some of the dates as one is to close to X-mas and he will be getting in touch with the raceway owners to make sure the dates will work for them also.

Dave,

I will get you one of the new Gen V chassis. And we will get it dialed in on the track at Holley. This new chassis will be able to be configured so the car will run on the Flat Tracks and with interchangeable parts added or removed Run on the Super Speedway Kings or anything in between.

I like what you did with the production version of the Precision Slot Cars Scratch Builder. Much improvment over the prototype that I am using. Good job on that unit
I will need to get with you. The series will need some offical gages and tech tools and I can think of no one better then you to make these for us.

Greg Vanpeenen

JEREMY'S SCHEDULE LOOKS GOOD TO ME THOUGH THAT DEC. IS A LITTLE TO CLOSE TO X-MAS I MOVE IT BACK A WEEK. IMHO YOU DON'T NEED DUES , BUT THAN I CAN'T STAND BEING CHARGED FOR PIT SPACE EITHER!!! JUST CHARGE ME TO RACE.

There will be no dues in the series but i think there will be a $5 pit space ch for the track time for practice and maybe some snacks and drinks. I think i will move the date in dec to the 12th someone else suggested that eairler also.

I deeply appreciate the vote of confidence but I won't be able to make all of the scheduled races.

BoD members really need to be from the immediate area so they can attend every race.

During the winter months it will be difficult for me to travel the 2 or 3 hours when bad weather arises. I will dutifully take pictures and cobble together race reports at every race that I attend.

Here is one for ya, Chicagoland and Mid-America are closer to me than Holly or Flint.

I'll help in any way but I cannot do justice to being a BoD member.
