Here's what is labeled as a 'Vinter Test' on YouTube, on the FordHeritage channel.

"Classic 1970s Ford Escort Rally cars, and Ford Fiesta performing almost balletically on a frozen lake in the hands of rally aces Bjorn Waldegard and Hannu Mikkola."

The year is 1978.

Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap

Very cool.

No way you could do that now with all those people that close. But then modern rally racing still has fans all over the place.

Hardcore competitive drifting is a blast to watch and signifies some real driving talent on many levels. The sport barely hangs on, but due to a large part of Ken Block's both paid and self-promotion the sport is popular with the sub-25 crowd. Admittedly I am a fan of the JDM movement and some of the great builds coming out of Japan. Cars that you hated in the '70s and '80s all of a sudden look cool.

Sure there is a lot of crap running around on the streets and punk kids wheeling $1,500 cars with $35,000 powerplants, but I respect the inginuity even if the garbage can exhausts do not fit my taste.

Rally prepped Ford Mk 2 Escort in the hands of rally masters on a frozen lake = pure gold.   :D :good:

The Escort handles sooo well, wish I still had my Mk2...

They've been ice racing on Maine lakes & rivers since I was a kid. In those days, the hot setup was the 2-stroke, 3 cylinder, Saabs. Briggs & Cunningham in Brunswick built the top cars.

My college roomate ended up working for Randy The Macho Man Savage, so this totally makes sense.

Reminds me of the good ol' days before plowing the roads became popular.
