I really like the idea of running F1 & Can-Am first, that way you can leave early if you have a long drive. I think the JK spec class should be the entry level only class & eventually phase out the flexi class. I also think the 4.5" vintage stockers could be really popular, after people have had time to build them. I expect some of the bigger events will be two day affairs with enough time for more of the classes. I wonder what's being considered for the anglewinder class? Will it be a more advanced expert type class?

No, you are not wrong and we all know what happened in this class.

JK Spec has been designed as a beginners class and as soon as we get enough participants in it I would also like to phase out Flexi GT and all beginners race JK Spec. This is one of the things we will have to play by ear. One of the things the board has been talking about to keep the seasoned racers out of the JK Spec class is to make them choose between racing in the Can Am class or the JK Spec class, but you can't race both. No seasoned racer is going to pick a tier 2 class over a tier 1 class.

Larry is correct in my reasoning for running the Flexi GT first, but if you thnk about it, it really doesn't matter because we will know how many of each we will have before we start either one. I'm going to change the race rotation because I really feel as Ron does the Flexi GT should be the last race at each event. This way we can mix the Flexi GT guys in with the JK guys instead of visa versa. :laugh2: ;)

I would also like to see the Nascar race included as soon as we can phase out the Flexi GT class. Our problem is time at a one day event.

Mike has agreed to open at 8:30 for the Sept. race and we will start tech at either 9:30 or 10 depending on how many show up.

It has been my understanding that the Flexi class was to get local racers interested in the IRRA when the show came to town. Not as an event for some national level racer to beat up on the locals.Let the IRRA regulars stay out of flexi, and let the regulars display the speed of the Spec class so the locals have some incentive to move up.Am I wrong on what the flexi class is intended for?Running all 4 classes seperatly is the best, but if you have to combine, flexi would be the best choice. :don-t_mention:

While the "concept" of Retro Flex was to get Flexi racers ( local or traveling ) to come to the Retro races and hopefully once they seen the other classes, they would want to start building cars and get involved in the other classes. I don't think the class was ever set-up for locals only. ;)

With that being said, by running Flexi last in the program, maybe some of the better drivers won't race/use the flexi class as a warm-up before the other events. Plus by running it last, the scratch built racers who have no interest in flexi racing can get on the road home a bit earlier, while the local flexi racers have a short drive home.

If we have to combine any of the classes, Spec and Flexi would be the best two to combine, yet score separately. I am sure that by doing this from time to time, some will get upset if they were planning on running the two classes separate.

My suggestion for Spec and Flex would be to run two minute heats versus three minute heats at the races.

This would save some time and maybe allow the two classes to be run separate if say there was only 4 spec entries and 4 Flexi entries.

The anglewinder class would be for anyone who wants to race in it. I don't expect any anglewinder races in the 2008-09 Ohio Valley series. There are no rules yet and it may take some time for racers to start building cars for this class.

Mike at Tom Thumb will probably run a few anglewinder as well as some Stock Car races this upcoming year in his bi-weekly Retro Program. That should be fun.

Question for Ron, (slightly off subject) do the approved vintage stock car bodies come with window masks for painting?

Jerry,

It will be a while before the anglewinder rules are posted. It's not a class that we think most people will want to build for at this time. We want to get a good Retro base before we start racing it. You can expect Flexi GT to be here all this season and maybe next season if JK doesn't take off like we think it will.

Gary,

Have you ever heard about Parafilm. It works great on windshields and you can use it to mask off any design you want. Micro Center carries it, about $18 for 25' with shipping but for about $4 more you can get a 250' roll from other places. Just check out the internet. Here's a link to a site that tells you how to use it.

OK, it's official, I'm building a vintage Dodge Charger stocker! I did the same thing 41 years ago. Cool!

I agree with Bill. For us here at Fatboys we're going to have a bunch of newbees & I believe that you need a class designated for beginners so there isn't any cherrypickers. Besides, if you run both classes together - guys are going to get upset when newbees keep coming out of the slot. Just trying to make it fun!

I posted the following in the Midwest Retro Racing Association section, since I think we are closer to them, even though we are on the South end of the Ohio Valley. In any case, please feel free to join us. We will be racing on a 60's vintage flat 90' hillclimb that was rescued from a burn pile, & restored last fall.

"FastLane Raceway in Evansville, IN would like to join the Midwest Retro Racing Association. Several of our racers are building cars & we will be doing some tune-up races. We want to hold an "Official" IRRA Race on Saturday, November 1st. That day is our 1 year anniversary. Because of Mall liability insurance issues we cannot hold the vintage slot car swap meet.

We will run JK Spec, F1, & Can-Am classes. We will open for practice at 0800 Saturday & start the Tech at 0900.

Please contact me at agkatfri@hotmail.com for details, or see them at http://fastlaneracew....insightbb.com/.

Hey All,

I keep reading about race day scheduling and it seems there is always someone mentioning that those who want to leave early after their races can get going, but I'm trying to figure out who marshalls for the racers that are running the last class of the day. It's not much fun to race with no marshalls and making track calls instead. I understand this isn't a problem when there are enough entries in the class to have at least two heats, but we didn't have that many at T/R's race and had to "recruit" marshalls. You can't always count on that I don't think. Just food for thought.

Good point Paul, because the guys who only run in the Flexi GT race usually are there and help turn marshall the other races.

Just impound the cars from the class before the next class to run...... example...... F-1 runs first... after F-1 impound all cars and don't give them back until the Can-Am race(S) are over....then impound the Can-Am cars until the Spec class race is over.......impound the Spec cars until the flexi race is over......

Instant turn marshalls. :) :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2:

I have my crystal ball in front of me..... I foresee a retro series being formed between Evansville, In and Louisville, Ky and maybe any other tracks near by.

Andy, Do you have any contact with anyone at Bullitt Raceway in Louisville??? They have a great King track that would be awesome for some retro racing. Your about two hours or so from Louisville right?
