For this weekends race we will be opening at 8am. Practice will end at 10am and we will start the days events with the F1 race as normal.
If there are not enough sign ups to have the race we will continue practice until 10:45 and then run the Can Am race.
Please remember that masks are required

SCRRA Retro racing is back on the Pirahna Raceway Flat track this Saturday and we hope to get things underway at about 10 AM.

Richard said the track will be open at 8 AM and hopefully we'll have enough racers to get in the scheduled F1 and Can Am races. Masks and social distancing still are the order of the day and Richard said the raceway will be totally sanitized before the raceway opens

Dusting off the 'vintage' cars

So, I dug my old cars out from 20yrs ago and went to bpr the other day and I remembered what good cheap fun this was.

Question-do I need to buy all new stuff to race or do ppl still run the 4.5 nastrucks, the 4 champions or nascars, etc? I have two int 15 wing cars and a group 27 (it was fast at the time)

The 15s were running 3.7s the other was 2.7s. I checked some results and see thats pretty slow 😂 so whats the popular thing to run now? Lmp, Phoenix open, group f, I have no idea what any of that means but Id like to run something thats:

1. On the big track,
2. Inexpensive, (preferably using chassis I have with new motors) 3. This isnt as mandatory but something in the mid 3 second range, more driver focused than just outright powerful sub 2 second lap times.

Any suggestions?

Ohm rating of Koford controllers?

I've recently bought a few Koford controllers used off eBay but don't know the ohm ratings! One has a bundle of black resister wires, one has brown resistor wires, and the other has blue resistor wires. I imagine the color of the wires determines the resistance.

Does any know what colors are what ohm rating?

A running car, bare chassis, or anywhere in between is ok, as long as the chassis is in useable condition.

SCRRA Flat track racing this Saturday at BPR - 3/6

SCRRA racing returns to BPR this Saturday with Retro racing on the Flat track. As usual lately, we'll just have to see how many racers show up and that will determine the days schedule. Generally, we've been ignoring any formal tech and a Can Am race hopes to get underway about 10:30 AM or so with maybe 8 racers. If someone wants to run a Coupe or F1 in the mix, this will certainly be allowed and we've done this recently with no issues.

If we have a larger turnout we could possibly run 2 races. If you are interested, just come on down or call the track.

And, as usual lately, masks will again be required of all racers!

I for one am glad to see some new retro bodies approved by IRRA. even if many seem to be rehashes of bodies that have been legal for some time. I just painted these two OLEG bodies and hope to try them out soon.

What new bodies would you like to see?

For me it would be a new version of the McKee So-Cal special for Can-Am, a good Lotus 49 For F1, and good versions of Ford and Chevy for Stock Car.

OT - Wired alarm system panel question

I apologize about this post, but I've run into a problem and I'm not sure where to ask this question. Hoping that someone here has some wired alarm systems experience.

My DSC PC-1556 alarm board went up in smoke. No longer made so I bought what I thought was a direct replacement. Turns out its not! Almost, but 2 terminals are missing - sort of.

The picture below is of the original board schematics. The four "K" are where the keypads (my house has two) connect. The "W" have wires connected, for what I do not know.

This photo is of my new board schematic, a DSC PC-1555MX. Two of the four original terminals for "K" are missing, the ones That were labeled red and black. Those "K" wires now connect where the "W" terminals were on the old board.

So now have 2 wires with no where to connect them. Any suggestions?

PS: I should mention that the 2 boards look almost identical, with the new board being a slightly newer model.

2021 Fantasy Raceways ongoing HO racing results

There was a full house of HO racers on Saturday at Fantasy.

Twelve hopefuls started the day in the IROC event.

As usual this was another close one. The top six finishers were separated by only four laps.

Steve Dickinson, with a few track records along the way, earned a hard fought win. Steve's fast lap of 10.159 helped keep him one lap in front of Dave Failing in second. Larry Weaver rounded out the podium in third place.

Next up was the popular E-Fray group. Eleven drivers took up the challenge.

With another strong performance Dave Failing came within sections of the unofficial Fantasy E-Fray lap record taking the win with a total of 111.58. Rich Joslin needed a clean final heat and his best lap total to date to hold off Steve Dickinson for second place.

On March 6, we will be racing Retro and Flexi classes starting at 10 AM.

Everyone had tons of fun during the Retro Nationals so several local racers asked to continue playing with these cars, so -

10 AM - Retro Stock Car (IRRA rules) on the King.

Next - Can-Am (IRRA rules) on the Engelman.

After lunch - JK Indy cars (11/37 spec gearing, B52 or Intimidator motors) on the orange.

Next - GTP (Phoenix motors, open gearing) on the King.

Trying to run four races so we will move the program along.

In April 3, we will run the JK Box Stock rules cars in preparation for the JK series race coming to the Viper Pit on April 24.

Shunt wiring tips

Anyone have any tips on how to keep solder from wicking down the shunt wires towards the brushes? I have heard a small drop of oil on the shunt will stop it but am not convinced.

Anyone out there using the Gophert NPS-1601 power supply on your 1/32 home tracks? The price is incredible! There must be a catch.

Someone was trying to tell me that 5 amps is not enough for homeset cars? I have to conclude that they have no concept of what amps that a homeset car draws? It's my experience that the hottest "plastic chassis 1/32" cars draw much less than ½ amp under load.

I am not going to list the price that I found it being offered for because the market is volatile and could change at a moment's notice. It is easy to search and find dealers that are selling this power supply or the YouTube video review of the product.

All I know about it is shown below. The above mentioned YouTube video shows the units capability in depth.

SCRRA Retro racing returns to the Piranha King track this Saturday. The normal schedule has F1 in the morning and Can-Am later in the day but due to all the virus issues lately it seems we've only been able to get in one race on race day.

If past recent races are any indication, I'd say we'll probably have enough racers to run a Can-Am race and it will probably start around noon. If you have any questions about what's happening on Saturday please call Piranha Raceway at (562) 463-9260

Dale made a suggestion about another idea. Maybe we could run a flat track race in the morning and a King track race in the afternoon. so if you are planning on coming out, bring your flat track cars also. The norm lately has been to allow F1s to also run with the Can-Ams and we'll just once again play it by ear and see how many racers show up on Saturday.

Friday 02/26: The Raceway will open at 5:00p.m. Both tracks will be available from open until the end of the Drag Racing Program or 9:00 (which ever is later). A "Test & Tune" rate of $10 will get you unlimited use of the Oval and Flat Track.

Saturday 02/27: The Raceway will open at 8:30 a.m. Your entry fees will cover the practice session as well. Tracks will shut down at 10:00 a.m. at which time we'll tech 4" Stock Cars and begin the racing program.

No Qualifying. The race director will "seed" the grids based on the results from JK Box Stock Series Race 1 held at Atlanta Slot Car Raceway last month.

Order of race day events

10:00 a.m.: 4" JK Box Stock Stock Cars on the Oval.

Immediately following Stock Car: JK Box Stock LMP tech/racing on the Flat Track (Reverse LTD)

Immediately following LMP: JK Box Stock Wide Indy tech/racing on the Flat Track

There will be a minimum of practice between classes. You have from now, until 10:00 a.m. Saturday morning to prep - that should be plenty of time!

Points toward the championship of the 4-race Q1 2021 series will be awarded based on finishing position. The points structure is outlined in the rules document mentioned above.

Set up tips: All the JK Ready to Runs come with a .035 nylon spacer between the guide flag and the chassis. You will need to retain that as our braid depth on both tracks is about .030. If you're cutting your rear tires close, be sure to leave .055 to .060 rear clearance especially on the Flat Track.

We will keep the program moving as we plan to run our regular weekly Saturday afternoon program starting as close to 2:30 as possible.

Thinking about Reopening "Pitstop Hobbies and Raceway" in Massachusetts.

Was originally in Hanover Mass in the early 90's. Looking at space in the same general area to re-open, Wondering if there would be enough interest to make it worthwhile, will have a Hillclimb, tri-oval, drag strip, and possibly a flat road course and commercial HO track.

It was a fun night of racing at BAR as 7 racers braved the snow and cold weather to compete in the second monthly Womp and Super Nascar race.

In the Womp race saw Nick Traina break out to an early lead over joe Migliachio after 4 heats. Up by 9 laps ………….Joe wouldn't give up …...and as the final heat ended Joe took over first place and won by 1 lap.

Can-Am on the Aristocrat – 02/16/21

Six drivers pitted their retro Can-Am cars against the American Aristocrat this week at MVH. Racing was in the 4/4 format.

Can-Am Cars in Tech:

Right from the start the race for the win was between Bob “Woody” Hazelwood and Richard Payne. At the move to the inside lanes both racers were on the same lap with Woody holding a slight lead. Meanwhile, Dan Savage’s only competition for third was Rob Hayes, who was posting faster laps but not quite as many. Dan held a comfortable 3-lap lead at the midpoint of the race. Erik E and Durf Hyson closed out the field.

The race for the win continued on the inside lanes as Richard was able to stay on the same lap as Woody for the next four heats. The race remained tight right up until time ran out with Woody holding on to take the win by less than a lap. In the race for the bottom step of the podium, Rob was able to close the gap to Dan to under a lap but was unable to get any closer. Two close races made for a fun night!

Fast lap of the night went to Woody with a 4.605.

SPECIAL NERR COVID-19 PROCEDURES:

General:

Refusal to follow the guidelines listed below or any COVID-procedure-related disruption of this event by a given driver will result in the driver being asked to leave the event. All racing/practice will be stopped with track power turned off until the offending driver has left the building. Season points for that driver will be forfeited.

Pit Area:

If you traveled to the raceway in the same vehicle with another driver you do not need to maintain physical distance from that driver in the pit area, but you both need to keep your distance from the adjacent pit areas of others.
The pit area will be spread out to maintain 6 feet of physical distance to the next pit area. Please do not crowd together in the pits.

Tech Inspection:

Please maintain a physical distance of six feet minimum when presenting your car to tech.
Adjacent to the tech table we will have a holding table for cars. When cars are brought to tech, the car should be placed on the tech sheet with the entry fee (pit pass plus race fee, per schedule below) under the car.
Place cars on the holding table in the order they were presented.
Do not wait with your car.
If the tech inspector finds a rules infraction, you will be called to retrieve your car to correct the infraction.
Once the infraction is remedied, return your car to the end of the queue on the holding table.

Lunch:

Lunch: If you eat lunch inside the raceway it must be done at your pit area.

Face Masks:

Proper wearing of a face mask is required 100% of the time when you are inside the raceway.

A face shield only or wearing of masks below the nose is NOT considered wearing a mask.
Face masks may be dropped/lifted to eat or drink but must be immediately put back into their proper place.
NERR has a “one warning” policy regarding face masks. If anyone isn’t properly wearing a mask at the drivers’ panel it will result in a track call until the issue is corrected.
A second infraction by the same driver will result in that driver being black-flagged for that race.
If you are unable or unwilling to wear a face mask as stated above, please do not attend this event.

NERR General Race Event Procedures and Schedule:

Track will be open for practice on Friday evening prior to the race from 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Pit pass for the evening is $10.00.

Track opens Saturday morning at 7:00 am.

Entry fees for each class will be collected at tech, cash only please.

Entry fee for each class is $15 plus $10 pit pass for race day.

Tech opens at 9:00 am, closes at 10:00 am or when last car clears inspection if earlier than 10:00..

Cars in Tech shall be impounded and not handled by the car owner or other racers.

Track power will be shut off at 9:30 am.

Qualifying starts 15 minutes after close of tech.

Lane selection will be immediately after qualifying. Drivers who are not present during lane selection will be assigned a lane at random by the race director.

Racing begins 10 minutes after qualifying.

Race heats will be 3 minutes in length with two minutes between heats.

Prior to the start of each Main a one-minute warm-up will be provided. Sit-outs (if any) have the option of a one-minute warm-up.

Tech will open for next class 45 minutes after conclusion of previous race or as stated by the Race Director--track power will be shut off 15 minutes after tech opens.

In races with move-ups, drivers moving up shall have 10 minutes to present their car to Tech for re-inspection.

Euro Toy Big Brother chassis?

I am probably bringing up a very old and much discussed previously topic BUT I have two questions.

Does any one have photos of the Euro Toy Big Brother chassis? I think there may have been three variations? I have seen photos of the first Big Brother but not any following variations.

Second question, does any one happen to have one of these chassis still hanging around that they would be willing to part with? I am a chassis collector freak and would love to have at least the original Big Brother.

From what I have been able to see the car was barely used.

The roll bar was repaired. The driver is NOT glued down. The front right side is missing an acorn nut but that is an easy fix.

The wheels were corroded and were cleaned. Tires are soft and pliable but could use being replaced.

I took a break from building replica vintage dragsters, gathered up what I had accumulated in the way of Kemtron motors, Ram and Pittman "padlock" motors, and figured out how to assemble the best of various vintage motor components into custom dragster motors.

Does a schematic or repair guide exist for Professor Motor Silver Series controllers? I did some web searches and came up with a lot of dead links.

I contacted Oliver at PM and he indicated they have only a limited supply of parts. No replacement diode boards available it would seem.

I have checked all wire connections for continuity. I have cleaned all contacts.

Any information for DIY repair would be appreciated.

Parma Womp-Womp time-timeline

A follow-up to the Great Womp Question.

Greg ("Cheater") asked about the first appearance of the Womp Bug, so I dug into my archives and found some interesting information on the origin of the Parma Womp-Womp. I thought we had covered this before, but couldn't find anything in a forum search, so am posting this here.

In fact, it dates back to... 1972! October 1972 issue of Car Model to be precise.

Except, he says that the car has a "two-piece brass chassis", so not quite the Womp we all know and love... but the principle and the name - "Lil Womp-Womp" - are already there. The chassis photo is a bit dark, so not sure if it was really a 2 piece unit, but from what we can see, it may be closer to the Russkit Rattler.

The second mention is in the November/December 1973 issue of Car Model, but since there's the same ad, only a little clearer, in the May '74, I scanned that (and also because my one Racing Coast to Coast article was published in that issue...). Still no details on the car, however.

But at the same time, in the May '74 issue of International Modeler, Parma published a full-page ad with the "new wider chassis, wider body", and a shot of the new chassis underneath.

Confirmed in the 1974-1/2 Auto World catalog, not in the 1/32 RTR section, but in an added page at the front of the book dedicated to new releases.

So, there you have a quick look at the Womp-Womp Timeline... I was getting back into slots in '74-75, but frankly I don't remember seeing any Womps around Portland and Seattle, or being interested in them, which is probably why I didn't notice any. Our Group 12, 20, and 27 races were what interested most guys, so maybe we didn't need them...

Formula 1 or Indy Car racing

Back in the old days many if not all local tracks held weekly "Run What Ya Brung" races, many of these line-ups consisted of open wheel cars. The sports cars of the day just could not compete against a good open wheel car. As aero additions became popular for sports car bodies the emphasis became sports car only racing. In the late 60's or early 70's an attempt to resurrect open wheel racing was made so many new "Handling Bodies" were made to accommodate the new open wheel angle-winders that were showing up at tracks. The problem was these wild machines had no wings or trim tabs etc. like sports cars, as such they were beasts to drive. Most if not all chattered, bounced and launched. In AZ we had a few of these races at Jacks Raceway in Mesa on his notorious Orange track which was fitted with a clear plastic shield in the bank to keep cars from launching out onto Main Ave.

After this period of disaster open wheel racing pretty much died everywhere.

I would propose that open wheel racing could come back to the USRA if rules could be drafted for angle-winders or in-lines that include some sort of air control. As for motors how about use what you think you can drive, if you are driver enough to keep an open wheel car on the track with an open more power to you. I suspect that many will find something like C12 or an FK motor is going to be enough to consistently cut laps to win, it's not the fastest that wins, it's the guy that can keep his steed under control.

Im looking to replace the no longer available Parma 1/24 race car number stencils. I know that number stickers for the outside of the body are readily available in many sizes, designs and colors. But I have been unable to source good vinyl numbers to use as painting stencils.

Ive always used the Parma product but their website no longer works and Im told product is really unavailable. I know the demise of Parma has long been rumored and discussed- but now it seems fact. Anyone know of a source for numbers?

I was looking at some of the old slot cars in my box.This was the last plate steel chassis that I built .I built this one in 1981 and raced it for the entire season.This car never raced on the smooth tracks that we run on now. It raced on old American raceway tracks of the era. Narrower lanes and limited glue zones. I used to build a lot of cars back in the day.I rarely saved any of them as someone usually wanted to buy it from me .I can still remember what the dust from the Dremel emory disc tastes like and remember the sting of the exploding disc.I mostly raced group 27 and group 15 .I loved building my own stuff and was constantly making improvements to my builds.This car first ran with a Hi-Pro can am turbo set up which was the best ceramic mag motor I ever had (still have it),the car currently has a Trinity X-Edition set up and a Bob Greene cheetah 27 arm.If I remember correctly this was the first of the small plastic magnet set ups on the market.The triple

lead wires came about because I lost a couple of races from broken single wires . What I deemed as critical areas were bullet proofed with wire wrap and soldered after on track hits broke the axle tube loose on earlier cars.Many of the friends that I traveled with were coming to fewer races and it just wasn't as much fun traveling by my self so I stopped racing slots in 1982. By the mid eighties laser cut perimeter frames were the norm and all the hinged movements were not needed.I occasionally stopped by some of the tracks to see old friends and they let me try some of their modern cars on the smooth tracks.It seemed like I could use a jumper wire on the control panel and step back on watch it.It wasn't fun for me so I started racing 1/12 scale RC.Now that I am soon to cut back on working I am interested in slot cars again.I see The IRRA retro cars as a class that puts the chassis builders back in the picture.This is intriguing to me and I might just have to build a car again.I just wish there was a local track to race at.
