Bob Smith 5-minute epoxy. This is not a new problem, we've been dealing with it for decades. The epoxy just keeps the windings in place, so don't load the resistor up with it. And definitely don't get it on the area that is wiped by the trigger contact.

Parma sold bottles of that ceramic coating suspended in a paste-like liquid. Epoxy is a better alternative.
I intend to live forever! So far, so good.

Probably the most technically correct coating would be Glyptal but it is pretty expensive. An alternative coating which appears to be basically the same thing is Gc Electronics 10-9002-A Coating Red Insulating Varnish 2 Oz$10.52ZoroFor most items:30-day return policy . It's only about ten dollars and would probably coat at least 10 or 20 Parma resistors, and as Dave said don't get any on the wiper surface. I don't know how thick this stuff is but you want a thin coating to not insulate the windings too much so you may want to thin it down a bit.

I'm not sure why it does it, but I periodically have to clean my controller holder boxes, on my driver's panel, from pink dust and flakes.
Also, if I wind up with a box in a buyout of somebody's old stuff, it inevitably has a drawer coated in pink dust.

The later resistors had a grey epoxy that never flaked.

I've "improved" the flaky orange or pink coating with an overcoat of JB Weld or other epoxy. The resistors with the gray epoxy are the slightly more expensive wet wound version which I prefer. I've had the gray epoxy flake off the wide band areas, but there's a much lower occurrence than the orange, blue, or pink coatings on the standard resistors.
