Hi everyone, I have a question about a Pro Slot 16D. I'm building a couple of motors to run in the 4.5" NASCAR class in a MSSRA event next weekend, and I'm not sure if what I have is legal to use. Here's a link to the MSSRA motor rules- https://docs.google....V7cSC3bD0fCBErg

I'm building one of the motors using a Pro Slot setup that I got in a used car awhile back. The 16D arm that was in it had a shorted pole, so it wasn't really usable like it was, and I got another arm for it. I was assuming, based on pictures I found looking it up, that it was one of the Pro Slot setups that would be legal. The rules say that a Kelly/Pro Slot 2004 setup, and a Kelly/Pro Slot 2000 motor are allowed.

When I actually went to put the motor together, I discovered that it had a .560" arm in it rather than a .513", which is what I was assuming that it was, and is the size of the arm I got for it. I've been trying to figure out if the setup I have is a 2004, but I have yet to be able to find the specs for the different cans. Does anyone know what the specs are, or can anyone point me to something that would tell me?

I've attached a couple of pictures of the motor. The outside dimensions of the can are .656" tall x .925" wide. The inside height of the can, measured at the open can end, is .602". That's all I can get without taking it back apart.

Thanks!

Jason

The 2004 is the Speed FX setup used for Pro Slot's 16D and S16D motors. The 2000 is Pro Slot's 16D motor that uses the 2004 setup and oriental arm. You have a Speed FX can and endbell like the 2004 in your photos. Your rules allow any commercial arm, so you should be okay. I verified those numbers with the Pro Slot web page.

Thanks Bill.

Yes, I did know that the 2000 is a motor, and the 2004 is a setup, but what was confusing me is that I was seeing different part numbers on websites for the setup for the standard .518 arm, and the one for the .560 arm.

So, just to make sure I'm understanding correctly, all of the ProSlot 16D cans are the same, but mine probably has thinner magnets installed to accommodate the larger arm?

I'm sorry if I seem a little ignorant. I haven't done anything to a 16D since I was a teenager in the '90s, and all of the slot cars I've run since getting back into it a year or so ago have run sealed motors, so this is all new territory for me. The only thing I knew of 16Ds back then was the standard Parma one that came in my Womp.

The factory hole size in these cans is probably big enough to slide a .560" dia. arm into. If my memory is correct, factory hole size can be up to .580". If you wanted/needed a bigger airgap, you could hone the magnets thinner to increase the hole size to provide more. This may have already been done for you. Racers do the same thing with C-cans. but their fat arms are only .540" dia.

Don't hesitate asking questions. There are no such thing as dumb questions, only dumb answers.

Factory size hole for the arm ranges from 0.575 - 0.560. I have measured and reglued so many. Most spec out around 0.565 ish. The stock Chinese arm specs at about 0.518. For all of the sealed motors. The Chinese arm motors I do believe run the same size arm with the same size comm.

The motors do like a bunch of air gap and will really wake up when the arm matches the setup. Your pictures show American arms. I can tell because the stacks were sanded and polished before being dyed. The American arms all have a larger comm diameter which helps with overall performance of the motor.
