He stuck around and raced and I got to spot his super-cool, machined aluminum, pit caddy.
IIRC, his family business makes die cast molds.

JCR.com makes a very nice Pit Caddy--I think it's 3D printed. Check it out on their website. I've been using one for a while now. $25.00
