I sat in a friend's 914 about 3 years ago, when he drove it to a Wednesday night race.
IIRC, I had to grab his arm to get back out. LOL

I modified the chassis with the addition of floppy pans. This addition allows the pans and body to transfer weight better to the chassis (over the previous thin torsion bar setup). The rear grip has been increased making the car much easier to drive. Now I want to install a Steube Gp20 armature.

My 917/30 chassis was modified again to improve the handling. More rear traction was desired. Trimming off the front brass wings, increasing the rear ride height (car was bottoming out), stiffening the bracing in front of the motor, and stiffening the plumber cross bracing helped a lot. I have also been trying out various brands of treated tires.

The body and chassis look great. Not a fan of the driver though... looks out of scale, small.

At the Goodwood hillclimb, with Bran Redman. Too much talking, but, Brian is one of my favorite drivers. Always has time for you, and an exceptional storyteller.

Bobby Rahal has a 917/10. One early morning at the July vintage race at Road America, I had a chance to poke my nose around it while the body sections were off. At a time when all other constructors had gone to monocoque style chassis, Porsche was still building chassis from tubing, in a birdcage style. Only the Shadow, which was essentially an F-1 car, could run with it.

I think the Sunoco Porsche 917/30 is the most beautiful (and brutal) racer of all time. Next favorite is probably the Sunoco Ferrari 512M. I'm detecting a pattern thare.
