I'm really looking forward to the GRRR race on Sunday, Aug. 21, and I suspect we will have quite a crowd.
We will be racing IRRA GT Coupe, Can-Am, and Stock Car, in that order, all on the new King track.
Doors will open at 9 AM. The location is Sunshine Plaza, 2400 S Ridgewood Ave, South Daytona, FL 32119.
BTW... I ran on Greg's new 155' (six-lane) King track this past Saturday and it is sweet! The large radius turns make it easy to drive even though all but the main bank are almost flat. It can be very fast, but IMO it drives quite different than a 'punch bowl' track with a lot of banking. IMO to go really fast you have to develop a very smooth rhythm. I didn't measure the braid depth but it appears to be .020"-.025". With my limited track time, and no real testing, my best guess for gearing would be 11/28, mostly because I understand the voltage is right at 14 vDC, so a 12tr pinion may heat up the motor a bit too much; as always your mileage may vary.

A few tips.
Greg glued the track using the formula Port Jeff uses.
So Thunder rubber, Wonder rubber, hard treated, or hard Kelly Retro rubber will work.
I like .025" guide spacing which is the same spacing I use at P1 and Fast Eddie's.
Can-Am cars are liking more weight than normal. 108 grams and up.
Biscuit and I both hit 4.570s in practice; we expect to go faster as the track rubbers up.
Feel free to ask for any advice.
You're never fast enough!!! 💯

I should be making the trip as I can test some 1/32 and HO controllers. Is anyone staying over saturday night? Any hotel recommendations?

Jim: Greg's new place is awesome and when I was there last Saturday there was quite a crowd on the 1/32, HO, and 1/24 tracks.

It was good to see Rick Moore drive across the state for a practice session. Fast Eddie made it over as well.
We had a lot of fun testing.

Tell Greg good luck with the race.
What are you guys getting for a sensible gear ratio?

I haven't tried a stockcar yet but I'm pretty sure a 10 pinion will be optimal.

Well here is the much belated report of the GRRR Event #8 held at Greg Walker's new place in Daytona Beach, Fl.
There was a great turn out as it seems everyone in Central Florida wanted to try out the new track
Here's a shot of his beautiful new Donn Bryans built six-lane King track. It's not a high banked "swoopy" track at all, in fact it's quite flat, but it has very large radius turns, a "ninety" that's more like a "seventy" and even that feature is moved well away from the bridge overpass. All of this means you have far fewer cars coming off there and the ones that do don't end up under the bridge. It really makes for a cleaner race and the six lane feature gives larger side gutters and also makes it easier to marshal.
