Rick gave me this Bill Sipple Lister-Jaguar Knobbly to restore. It was built by Bill Sipple, the founder of Auto Hobbies. This 1/24th-scale car features one of Bill's fiberglass bodies. This Lister-Jaguar appeared on the cover of the September 1963 Model Car Science. Look for the over-steering blue car no. 5.
The Lister-Jaguar is the sister car to the Bill Sipple Ferrari 250 TR that Rick restored and now resides in the LASCM. Pictures of the Ferrari are at the bottom below.
The Lister-Jaguar has a new Auto Hobbies chassis installed. The chassis is from the Ben Jones collection. A Pittman 704 motor was assembled from used parts and was installed in the car. Wheels are threaded aluminum. Strombecker wheels were turned down for use as wheel inserts. The large guide flag has a resin plastic look to it. One small patch was made to the fiberglass body, and the paint on the body was touched up.
The car is fun and easy to drive. Pittman 704s are not the fastest motors. The Pittman motors, like many other early slot car motors, were originally designed for model trains. I have a long shaft version of this motor for trains.
Thanks, Rick, for entrusting me to restore the Bill Sipple Lister-Jaguar.
