I am wondering if someone can guide me to a basic version of How To Scratch Build A Sidewinder 1/32 Slot Car Chassis ! I have learned, over the last two years, how to build Inline scratch builds, that are variations of Harry Wise's Stinker/Showdown chassis. These turn out quite well, and are good reliable slot cars. But due to the Inline configuration, you need a lot of space within the body, so what works, are Stock Car bodies and GT Car bodies. I'd like to build a few Le Mans Prototype cars and Can Am bodied cars. To have at least a little bit of an interior, and driver figure, a Sidewinder chassis would work best. Anyone that can point me toward some Instruction, I say Thanks, in advance !
Beginner's guide to sidewinder scratchbuilding?

Rod, I'm not a 1/32 scratchbuilder. When I searched for 1/32 sidewinder chassis here on Slotblog. on Bing, or on Google, I came up with nothing. Go back to HRW & open The Marty Stanley Scratchbuilders Shop. In the upper right corner do a search on sidewinder chassis. This will give you several pages of both 1/32 & 1/24 chassis articles. Here are four 1/32 articles I found that may help you. Have a look at "Howmet Turbine Spyder", "Lotus 11" (bottom of first page), "Piper Ferrari 250 GT", & "Mirage M2 Coupe." There be others too. Most of these use plastic motor pods. I didn't look at any 1/24 articles, but maybe there is something that could be scaled down for 1/24.
Another place you can check is SlotForum, an international slot car BBS. Open up their Scratch building forum & search on 1/32 sidewinder chassis. That search will get you 23 pages of posts. Some may be helpful, some may not.
Here's the link to a long-time 1/32 slot racer's page. It has plenty of 1/32 scratchbuilding information, but it might not be sidewinders. Some might be useful. Chris Briggs Slot Car Page (tripod.com)

Would something like this interest you? I will have four versions of this body available in about a week. I am just doing the final polishing on the molds now. These fit a standard 1/32 womp chassis with an inline motor. All four bodies will come with a fitted interior.

That's a sharp looking body Brian. It should help building some neat racecars. Post the other three when they're done too.

Roderick just for clarity are you talking about a full sidewinder or are you talking angle-winder?
A full side winder in 1/32 would require very narrow rear tires I think.

Now, that's a surprisingly great looking body, for a Womp !! But what I build, are SCALE 1/32 cars, and a womp body is too far out of scale. Width and wheelbase won't do. Again, what you showed is the best looking womp, that I've ever seen ! In addition to my scratch builds, I do also build a few project cars, on the LVJ Champ and Cruiser chassis, which is a chassis that I'm very fond of : but I do those build's with a SCALE body. Thank you, though !

Just a Sidewinder, as I'm intimidated enough, by just that one : I doubt I'd Ever, attempt an angle-winder ! And, to emphasize again, I'm trying to find The Simplest Method Possible, for scratch building a side-winder !!

Key word, might.
I don't go on it very often, but IIRC, I do see guys participating in scratchbuilding, on it.

scratch building is not something you can do overnight, it takes years of practice & there are no shortcuts. the 2nd thing is it's much harder to build a 1/32 sidewinder than an anglewinder. what are your parameters? are you building a hardbody or a lexan body? plastic track or commercial raceway? what size motor are you planning to use? you have to have the proper tools to build a chassis because a soldering iron & a dremel is not enough.

A lot of us build hybrid chassis, building a brass & wire chassis around a plastic motor pod made by slot.it, NSR, etc .Depending on the body you are limited to 8mm or 10mm rear wheels. Pure scratch chassis can start with one of of these motor brackets.
You will probably need a slot.it axle with the narrow center section and may need to grind the can adjacent to the axle some.
HRW and slotforum are good sites for 1/32 scratch building. Sadly very few of us are capable of building a chassis that outperforms a modern podded plastic chassis. I’m not, but it is fun to try.

As I previously stated, I do fine with my scratch built Inline chassis, as well as the LVJ cars I build. I just need more space inside the chassis, if I want to build low-profile LeMans Prototypes or CanAm cars, with a bit of an interior ! The GT cars and Stock Cars I do, perform very well, as the Inline setup accommodates those bodies, well, be it a hardbody, or PTEG, PVC, or Lexan clear bodies. I have accumulated most of the necessary tools I need, as well. But I may just end up continuing doing things like I have been : just scratch build Inline chassis projects, and buy Sportscar Prototypes and CanAm cars from Slot.it and the others. I'd just kinda' like the freedom to build a Prototype racer, that the slot car companies, don't offer, every now and then, that's all.

i'm exactly the same way - i build whatever i want. some with flexi chassis, but mostly scratchbuilt. i love the retro cars, but can't stand the in-line chassis. i prefer to build my own designs & most of them work very well. i even built a 1/24 full sidewinder that worked decent, but i had to use very large gears & tires. that being said, i made a real simple 1/32 chassis out of 1/32" brass i can share with you. PM me & i'll send you the details at no charge - later.

If I can find what file my downloads are in, I'll post them.
Anyone know where/who has these pliers? I keep getting sent to ones for leather. The malco ones I have are for vinal siding and, well, Forgetaboutit.

I've been looking into this myself. I'm partial to the Tyco motor and, the Kemtron kit is close to what I wanted. I've also been trying to find slot punch pliers for making the motor/axle brackets.
