From 2009 here's my micro bead blasting cabinet posting:
It's a new month so it's time for a new toy ! This time it's a Micro Bead Blast Cabinet with foot pedal:
That's a 1/24 scale McLaren Mk6 on the lid for a size reference:
Here's a link to the best price I found:
Cyclone Micro Blast Cabinet
I haven't needed one often but when I have, well, nothing else has worked as well as micro bead blasting. This is not like the typical glass bead blaster found in machine shops. I'm using 80 PSI and the finest glass bead media I could find:
I got the media from Rio Grande:
Rio Grande Extra Fine Media
A single 5 lb. package is all it takes:
Here is the inside of the cabinet with the pencil hand piece:
I tested it out on some Cox mag wheels. Before:
After:
Neato! A very fine, smooth finish.
Next up was an old chassis. The next picture shows the rust on the main rails and the small size of the contact patch the micro blaster makes on the brass pans:
Here's the micro blasted pan and rails:
The brass takes on a matt but not heavily textured finish. The steel is actually polished and shiny !
The tumbler does a better job on the large brass surfaces. But I think this thing will be perfect to get into those places that tumbling media won't reach for vintage chassis restorations. No more hand work trying to get into those places. I'll tumble, inspect, micro blast where necessary and tumble again.
Onward........
An update on the Micro Blast cabinet:
I tried it on these 3/4" Pro Car type front wheels with molded on tires. YIKES!
The super fine media doesn't hurt the tires but cleans the metal and leaves a satin finish:
Mucho goodo!

Powdered rouge is used in jewelry making, and available from jewelry supply companies and some craft stores. I'm sure it is too fine to cut the serious corrosion you have. I haven't bought any in a while, (10 pounds lasts a long time), but I think I got it from Eastwood. Soda blasting media is available at auto paint stores as well as on-line outlets like Amazon.
You probably need a full size sandblast cabinet to do what you want to do. ( like Rick Thigpen wrote) You might also try extra fine (320 grit) garnet as a media.

Dave,#10 is a lot. I'm going to try the #1 .
It's probably just the photo, it's not that corroded, tarnished, yes, coroded, no.
Also, I'm convinced that I nocked off .43 seconds with the tarnish.

I think I'm going to fabricate a cabinet. One thing I noticed is, this unit seems to like to have the hopper vertical.
Has anyone tried a Paasche ?
Cars Houston,I did purchase both of the , scotch Brite? Dremel wheels you posted. I haven't tried them yet but, I've got a larger wheel like that on my bench grinder. Works amazingly well. Some times ,when I'm on a commercial job, and there striping the wax from the VCT flooring, I'll ask them for the centre of the wheels that they use. They are about 2" diameter. They throw them away. They come in various grits, Mmmmmmmm grits, and, there free. I'm going to try them on my bench grinder or,a mandrill, someday. If I can find them.lol.

OK, "CARSHuston" said the links in my original post #28 above no longer worked. So I fixed them.
