Good luck! I saw a few months ago that magnetic braid was not being manufactured any longer.

It might help your quest to mention how much you need. I think your best bet will be someone has some left over from a braiding job, but will depend on whether there's enough to meet your needs.

Reach out to Greg Walker at The Race Place/Slot Car City in South Daytona, FL.

Greg is a big proponent of magnetic braid. If anyone know where to get some... it'll be Greg.

Jim Honeycutt in San Antonio might know, too. He used to be mentioned as a source, perhaps he still is.

Greg wanted to use magnetic braid but it wasn't available.

A few weeks ago PCH had magnetic braid for sale. I'd contact Scott and see what he can do for you.

If were talking a 4 lane track. 500' will braid 62.5' of track. Might get a club track done.

You really only need it in the turns and exits, don't need on the straights.

I thought of the idea of magnetic braid only in the turns, but if the track is built in sections, and to be braided in sections, typically the track is separated by straights and turns.

So you would have cars exiting turns, going into non-magnetic sections, at the beginning of the straightaways.

Even if you braided into the exits, who knows what would happen when you hit the straight non-magnetic sections.

I guess it would depend on how much that particular car is depending on the traction magnets.

Mike has a good point. The cars need extra cornering grip a foot or two out of a turn, so having the braid only in corners might be a problem. When my home track was built, Bob Scott was short on braid and asked if he could use some magnetic braid to finish the track. I have it on the slowest corners of my track, the donut and lead-on. However, I use some glue and no traction magnets, so I'm not getting the full effect. I did notice that my cobalt motor cars do have some pull on the track braid, and coming out of the lead-on can be a little tricky, but hadn't given any thought to the magnetic braid. The magnetic braid stops at the end of the turn and doesn't go out into the straight at all.

Cars with magnets added for traction "unload" when they transition from magnetic braid to non-magnetic = goofy behavior.

Since I am not producing Magnatech braid right now AFAIK the only magnetic braid available is stainless steel.

Magnetic stainless steel braid may be suitable for very small tracks but has been proven several times not to work on 8 lane commercial tracks...as far back as Uncle Kal's in California in the Nineties. The electrical resistance of stainless steel is 30-40 times higher than copper or copper-steel.

More recent experiments have also been failures.

You also need the magnetic braid in the braking zones leading into the turns. This all becomes very complicated. It's why the 1/32nd group I belonged to decided to go magnet-less. We had all raced on magnet tracks, and found we liked the challenge of using driving skill to win races. It was more fun.

We used to buy magnetic braid direct from Continental Cordage. Just looked through their catalogue and I do not see a listing any more. They do have stainless steel but stainless does not attract magnets very well.

I knew there were conductivity differences between metals, but I had no idea it can be that much.
