After I finished my jail door Porsche 906, I decided it would be fun to make a vintage jail door F1 car too. Then Jairus posted his phenomenal jail door Ferrari P3 (http://slotblog.net/...e-jail-door-p3/) and since I had a Ferrari 312 body on hand, decided I would do another tribute to Lorenzo Bandini. Rodney also recently posted a Captain Rick built Ferrari 312 (http://slotblog.net/topic/100583-rick-thigpen-customer-car-built-in-the-90s/) only in this case, it was a pro design as opposed to a jail door. But one of the things I loved about that car is that there was no attempt to hide the chassis out back but rather it almost seemed to be featured.

Jairus agreed to do the paint work on this car too but before we get there, here are some shots of the roller which is currently sporting a Parma 16D I had lying around until I can locate a vintage 16D motor (anyone, anyone … Bueller?). Also missing is the guide flag as I want to use a vintage guide as well but that too is a search in progress. But the main attraction in these shots are the wheels. These are Electric Dream repos of Russkit pro wheels which I procured thru Prof Motor. Prof Motor is also the source for the Ferrari wheel inserts and Jairus is the man who put everything together, painted the wheels and mounted/trued the tires. And I gotta say that I am most pleased with the outcome!

And finally some shots of the “nearly finished” car. As usual, Jairus’s paint work is incredible and he hand lettered the Firestone logo on the front which leaves me gobsmacked! And be sure and notice the roll bar which he also fabricated.

A beauty Larry!
Nice job cleaning everything once the chassis was complete.
I intend to live forever! So far, so good.

Thanks guys! And as with the jail door Porsche, Dennis is my not so secret weapon in terms of chassis detailing.

Dennis Samsson comes through again, Larry, did you know Dennis's wife is a very good body painter? She paints some of his bodies, but I don't know if she does others.
I intend to live forever! So far, so good.

What I have noticed is that Dennis's cars consistently take home the concours blue ribbons at the BPR gatherings!

I remember the crash at Monaco in 1967.And I will finish off with a close up of Lorenzo Bandini. Nicely done Jairus!
