Can you determine an unknown motor's intended voltage range? I'm thinking 'no,' but it'd be useful to be wrong.

Case in front of me: a KidzTech-Hotwheels with yet-another-unmarked S-can motor. Online I see the sets these cars came with used 6AA batteries, but I can't find out if that was three per lane or all for both.

Pic included for amusement. They sure packed a lot of stuff on such a cheap toy. I think that's a pair of chokes and then three wee caps all just for interference? Is this notably better than the previous single ceramic? Perhaps it is because newer interference regulations came along? (In my day... well in my day we lived in houses with full basements, so played too far from the livingroom set to know our un-adorned motors could cause interference. Also pre-cable TV reception was often carp, so who could tell?)

First post by new member.

Asked him to send me the pic and if he does, I'll add it to his post.

Never forget that first place goes to the racer with the MOST laps, not the racer with the FASTEST lap

I think the key here is to find out the set it came from and check there.

I found a manual for the Kidztech Hotwheels "Zero Gravity" set. This is No. 83151 / 83161

The six batteries together would represent 9v.

Surprise, there's an optional transformer, whic has an output of DC9V/1.5A

(manual attached)

Looks like fun!

Got several hits on a Google search. Guessing from the battery requirements that these sets power the track with the six AA batteries, so they'll run 6 to 9 volts.

The Strombecker race set I had in the '60s used 10 volts, to give a comparison. If you're thinking about running them on a different track, 12 volts will likely be too much. I don't know what any of the modern race sets use, but probably wise to not go over 10 volts or so.
