Since Covid-19, we last had a D3 Hardbody Nats back in 2019. The 2022 D3 Hardbody Nats was held this past weekend at Buena Park Raceway.

It's been a long wait to restart the annual Hardbody Nats races at BPR.

This year's Hardbody Nats had 4 races (two on Sat., two on Sun.): Short Track NASCAR, Trans Am, GTP and Mixed race.

The first race was for Short Track NASCARs. Phil Nyland won with Tim Herrera 2nd and Eddie Shorer 3rd. The Racer Handicap podium had Ken Dylke 1st, Phil 2nd and Steve Leibrecht 3rd.

The second race was for Trans Am cars. Mill Conroy won with Jim Lane 2nd and Keith Tanaka 3rd. The Racer Handicap podium had the same finish with Mill 1st, Jim 2nd and Keith 3rd.

Sunday's first race.was for GTPs. Jim Lane won with Keith Tanaka 2nd and Hector Gonzalez 3rd. The Racer Handicap podium had Jim 1st, Victor Dubrowsky 2nd and Keith 3rd.

The final race of the Nats was a "Mixed" race (for any D3 Hardbody Racing class except Short Track NASCAR, Trans Am and GTPs).

Mill Conroy won with Keith Tanaka 2nd and Phil Nyland 3rd. The Racer Handicap podium had Mill 1st, Bob Ahulii 2nd and Michael Kale 3rd.

Some milestones were set during the Nats. Hector "Gonzo" Gonzalez won all four Concours for the 4 races run. Mill Conroy set a new total lap record for the Trans Am class and tied the record for the Can Am class driving Gonzo loaner cars. The field of entries was dominated by cars built by "Gonzo". His "articulating pan chassis design won three races while most entries raced cars he built. Jim Lane won the GTP race driving his more conventional design chassis. Gonzo outdid himself when Bob Ahulii was 2nd (Racer Handicap podium) in the Mixed race driving a "dual" motor Gonzo pan chassis car!
