Hello guys,

Sorry if this is in the wrong place, new forum, bit confusing.

I'd like to make a Porsche 917K in 1:24 out of a Fujimi kit. I have years of modelling under my belt and most of that working in metal, so soldering and machining is not a problem. I've raced 1/32 slot cars on and off for years also.

Making a chassis from scratch is not the problem as far as skill, knowing what is needed and where to get the parts in the UK is. I have been told that you can buy whole 1/24 chassis as a kit of parts and I see that Pendle Slot sell 1/24 917K wheels. I could turn up the wheels, but is there any point at only £18 a pair?

If I could find a whole chassis kit or shopping list of bought parts, I'd be happy to buy those and get my first car running, then move onto more scratch building at a later date.

Is there anybody here that can help me find the parts I need? I know nothing about where to buy slot car parts from other than Pendle Slot, I have no knowledge of any of the traders selling slot parts let alone 1/24!!

Many thanks,

Rob

Hi Rob and welcome to Slotblog.

I found a couple of threads on scratch building a Porsche 917K. Maybe there are some leads or at least ideas for you???

1/24 hardbody Porsche 917K

1/24 Porsche 917K Gulf 1971

Also the sub-forum link below is a great builder-restorer that builds lots of scale 1/24 cars from a variety of components from all over the world:

Hope this is some help,

Rick

Scaleauto has a great home set chassis but out of stock

They also have a very nice metal chassis depending on your budget.

Rob, the Germans has been racing these cars for years. I have even participated in a few races there back in 2009-2013.
The car raced there was scale models of a very high standard and they were not spared !!  I was often asked why I would risk racing such beautiful car - and the answer was - If they are damaged, I just build a new one :-)  LOL  A bit arrogant, but I was rather skilled in building these cars back then ;-)

For parts look at  Scaleracing.de (owner Dieter Jens is on this forum and is a great guy). Slotpoint.de has some cheaper chassis and also a lot of spares too.

NOTE: cars and part obtained outside of UK and US is mostly in mm !!!  the standard axle diameter is 3mm

Dieter is a great guy - I raced with him 1990 - 2000+ and then he left wing cars and concentrated to scale. Seen him a couple of times in Bruhl Xmas race as spectator. Jens Scale Racing is the 1:24 slot racing specialist

You could also look at PlaFit chassis, though not a nice as the German chassis, they are very adjustable, so fit a wide range of wheel bases and track widths.
Fola also makes great chassis, as does Micheal Neimus, whos cars are next level.
These guys also make a great range of bodies in GFK.
