Could someone post info about J&J Raceway, which I believe was in Long Beach. Is this where Gene Husting set his record?

I've been holding onto a bunch of small parts from there I've had a while.

Looks like a number of items for building Magwinders, etc.

Was anyone here around there back in the day?

Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks.

J&J Raceways

5414 Long Beach Avenue

Long Beach, CA

Owned and operated by Jim Gallagher, with wife Julie.

That's from the March and December 1965 issues of Rod & Custom, both articles written by Gene Husting. It's probably mentioned elsewhere, but those are the first two I found. It was considered to be the fastest dragstrip in the state, but not sure if that's where Gene set his record. Top ET at both these meets was 1.05 sec.

The track didn't use tape or braid, but brass bars 1/4" wide by 1/8" thick! It was definitely one of the hotbeds of dragging in SoCal.

Are the parts loose or were they sold by the raceway? Very cool to find stuff from there in any case.

Thanks, Don, kind of figured you would come through.

I am having trouble posting pics.,Going to try to get some pics up.,Don't know why, used to have no trouble in the past.,Going to get my tech wizard kids on it.

I purchased a lot about 10 years ago.

There are a number of miniature 0-80? hardware including nut drivers, lots of other hardware, etc., etc. Also a bunch of bearings including mil-spec stuff from the '50s.

I believe this is Magwinder type hardware.

There are also some pillow blocks in original J&J packages. Assorted other stuff like some wheels and tires, etc. This stuff is just as it was back in the day. I'm sure at the time no one thought this stuff would be "collectible."

There were some "Tiny's Tires" new in the package in there too but they now reside in the LASCM.

There's a post here somewhere that shows them.

Joe
