The 1967 Alfa Romeo Tipo 33 Periscopica and 1968 Alfa Romeo Tipo 33/2 are sports prototype race cars powered by 2-liter V8 engines.  Beautiful cars.

Here are a couple in 1/24th scale.

I just completed this 1968 Alfa Romeo 33/2.  It uses a very rare resin body kit from Germany.  I left off the side fender mirrors (tired of their breaking off).

Wrong style wheels, but the Cox five spoke wheels fit the car nicely.

This open top car is a 1967 Alfa Romeo Tipo 33/2 Periscopica.  The body is from a Bandai brand model kit.  Gary Voleshen assembled the body and installed the interior.  I modified the front spoilers.  The wheel pattern is closer on this one.

16D motors and 1967 Cox chassis in both cars.  Body on the coupe is mounted loose (note indexed body mounting screws).  The coupe has an oval hole Cox motor.  I am trying out the mild version first.  I also have a version of this motor that has a thicker wind and is factory balanced.  Paul's urethane tires are used.  They are glued and trued.  Front weights were added.  Without weights, the rollers weigh in at 3.4 ounces each.  Each round weight is about 0.1 ounce.  Total weight of the coupe is 5.3 ounces.  Both cars drive nicely.  Added weights make a big difference, With the coupe, a smaller spur gear allows for running smaller diameter rear tires (fronts are smaller also).  This lowers the center of gravity.

Original front spoilers angled for lift on the open top car!  These were modified.

Nice cars Rod, and definitely a bit different; kind of surprising more companies didn't make these bodies.

Also not that easy to find this 16D size chassis by Cox.

By round weights, you mean the ones under the screws at the front? They must be thicker than they look at 1 oz each! Are the motors stock? If so, no trouble pushing 5+ oz cars?

Don, corrected to 0.1 ounce for the round weights.

Comes to about 3.4 ounce for the roller plus 0.3 ounce for the weights and 1.6 ounce for the resin body.    An unpainted Cox Dino body weighs in at about 1.1 ounce.  So, the resin body is half an ounce heavier than the stock body.

Motors are stock Cox motors.  The coupe has a newer oval hole Cox motor.  Gear ratio with these 16D cars is over 4 to 1.  Most Cox 36D powered cars were 3 to 1.

Alfa models were rare.

Cox kit from the Ben Jones collection.

Really nice!

Really capture the vintage look.

These hard body conversions take a lot of work and planning and you seem to have it down pat.

On the mirrors, you can drill a very small hole in the body and mirror and use a cut down straight pin as a locating mount.

You can Crazy glue the pin into the mirror only and install the mirrors on the car for display only, or glue them to the body as well and hope for the best :)
