Throwing this out there to give folks some ideas on how to paint a GTP-D2 for the upcoming Womp Mafia events in January.

Did you use a vinal cutter or freehand with tape? Either way, it is A KICKING!!
I have both an old vinyl cutter and a Cricut from Walmart. Each has its uses. The purple shadow is free hand sharpie.

If I may ask, what brand of paint do you use to paint your lexan/polycarbonate bodies.
Thanks

I use everything. Spaztix, Createx, Wicked Colors, Faskolor, Racer's Choice, Auto Air, and even Apple Barrel from Walmart. The Apple Barrel needs to be thinned quite a bit. But for fifty cents or a buck per 2 OZ bottle, its worth the aggravation and they have some unique colors. The acrylics can be used in combination with the Spaztix if you are careful.
I use my Eastwood or Harbor Freight airbrushes the most but I do have others. You don't need high end stuff, just practice. Learn to work with it.

Not to steal your secrets but,do you use a stencil for the Honey comb like the old school lace they used to use for stencils?
No secrets here. I am glad to share techniques with others. I use a simple honeycomb lace fabric with a light dusting of spray glue just to make it tacky so it sticks to the body. Too much glue and you get strings/defects in your paint. Put the lace down in the center first and work the wrinkles to the outer edges. On completely flat surfaces, start and one end and work your way to the other end. Always pay attention to keep the original shape of the lace work. Spray your main color in light coats, lift and spray your contrasting color. This technique would work with any type of lace. Use your imagination.
You can use masking tape to create a fan effect or scallop cardstock with a paper punch to create fish scales.
Most full size painting techniques can be applied to slot car bodies too.

But you might get them for a buck at your local dollar store, $1.25 if it's a Dollar Tree.

The lace I used was for a wedding veil. It seemed to be the correct scale for the effect I was after. The glue also helps to flatten the lace if you store it folded up like I do.

Thank you. I think next time I will thin the paint a little more and use a #1 needle for a bit more control. Maybe I will get a smoother lateral fade? We will see.
