It was a perfect Saturday for gathering at The Doghouse in Gilbert, SC, for something we hadn't done in quite some time – host an enduro.

We formed five two-person teams and scheduled ourselves to alternate heats for about two and a half hours. This time, we had a bit more than the usual suspects...

We used numerous Retro chassis, both manufactured and personally-fabricated...

In front is the car driven by Dan and Eric; then from top down is Allen and Bob A.; Conner and Jim; Marty and David; and finally Dr. Bob and Richard.

A quick look under the hood...

Everyone appeared to arrive prepared for battle – except for your humble scribe. Paired with young Conner, he and I watched the others lap us repeatedly. Our lap total wasn't as impressive as some of the others. Fast lap time for some; very modest times for Conner and me.

Still, it was a blast, and the racing was wild. After two and a half hours of solid racing, Marty and David came out on top with 1,220 laps. Congrats to the pair...

We expect to return to our "normal" monthly race next month. Be on the lookout for that report. Meantime, keep it in the slot. Come join us sometime.

Your humble scribe,

Beas

Close racing between the first and second place teams. The third place team wasn't too far behind.

Looks like fun was had.

We always have fun -- even when we race poorly.

An enduro can really try your patience, though. Once the clock started on heats, we had only very short breaks between those heats -- I believe we used 90-seconds. We had to move the car to the next lane, change drivers, clean tires, hookup controllers, everything needed to keep moving. Since we were in a somewhat crowded garage, it was challenging at times, and it really helped if you played football when you were younger and had no problems bumping into others and shoving them out of the way.

Our next race is set for tomorrow (Saturday, Feb 18). We get started at 9 a.m. and hope to run a couple of solid rounds and take the better of the two. I'll have a report soon after.

In March, we plan to run our JK Indy cars again. Those chassis are amazing, and I know all the guys will come prepared to compete.
