Should have taken other pictures of what I started with but had this wreck of a chassis and fixed it up today. Looked really bad but the bones where good and the main rails where straight. I was able to save the square tubing on the drop arm and guide post tube. Only rebuilt the pivot which I sleeved with 3/32" tube and remade the traingle part of the drop arm. Also was able to unsolder the slip joint to adjust the wheelbase. I'm trying to glue it with silicone so it can be adjusted in the future along with the guide lead.

Don't think these are anything special or if they handle well but was fun to fix up.

Nice save Mark, you really freshened that chassis up. I did one similar to that a while ago. Same body and a similar chassis. But not a Cox like yours.

It is rewarding giving these abandon cars new life.

Yep, nice save Mark.

I've got a couple of these, but have never actually run one, so don't know how they handle. They're very handsome looking chassis however.

And like Martin, I've got a couple similar one that was not sold by Cox; in fact, we're not exactly sure who did them, maybe AYK in Japan...

got to test car and happy to report it seemed to work pretty good even though the classic manta ray was still a little faster. also that motor with the endbell and arm conversion runs. that was first time trying it so thats nice.

I like the slammed Thigyfied body, It has a nice stance. Looks better with the silicons too.

He does. I like how you didn't over-restore the chassis like I have a tendency to do. A fresh body, brush painted on the inside, would complete the period-correct racer.

This body fit right and was on hand so struggled to paint it up. my airbrush is so bad towards the end I couldnt even get paint to come out even after cleaning so gave up on coats and left it semi translucent which is sorta cool.

first time using creatix wicked colors. wanted to do a gold fog around wheel wells with apple green backed with more gold. think I just need a decent iwata, cheap tools suck.

Mark, did you thin the Createx? What PSI were you spraying at? Had the brush been clean when you started? It's possible to have more than one reason for the clog. Yes, it might be the brush,

yeah was clean before spraying I always blast some thinner before paint. i used there 4012 reducer. also tried just water and tried no reducer. also soaked paint in hot water to thin it out. Spraying at around 20psi maybe turned up a little higher for more coverage. cleaned multiple times in middle of painting felt like I was trying to get the brush to work more than actually painting very frustrating. also started sputtering which is some airways half clogged obviously. maybe just time to upgrade.

Looks like a pearl paint, was it? The spray nozzle on your brush might be too small for the paint
Did you try cleaning the spray nozzle with a Q-tip dipped in thinner? Does the brush clog on you with
solid & transparent paint? Did you try increasing your air pressure? Iwata airbrushes are nice, but you
don't necessarily need one to get a good paint job.

I q tip’d the nozzles and soaked them etc… the paint is metallic and I cranked pressure up to like 40psi. it’s a bottom feed so that doesn’t help also. I’ve painted full size race car body parts so I know all about keeping the stuff unclogged and not drying out. i really think it’s a shrunk o-ring in one of the tips but I’d still like to get a new one. iwata eclipse or something.. thanks for the help!
