I found this item in a friend's stash and, of course, with my limited experience have little idea what class it was built for, who the builder was (there are no marks) or if these type of car is run anywhere. I suspect it may either be a very early type of retro car or as a full sidewinder and with the protection bar on the back. it has ball bearings in the rear. Perhaps either a Retro stock car or some form of hardbody class.

Thanks for any information.

With the rear weight, that's most likely a chassis for Buena Park's Hardbody racing class that's run by Keith Tanaka.

Mike is correct--that's a design we've raced at Buena Park in the Hard Body racing.  Looks good!

For such a nicely built chassis, and one where the builder wasn't afraid to throw weight in the back, I'm surprised there isn't better bracing on that back weight.

It really needs a 2nd wire running perpendicular to the existing one.

That motor bracket has two sets of bearing holes, so it could be used to build to chassis for both clockwise & counter-clockwise FK motors. It looks like it could have been made by Bryan Warmack.

Hey guys, it's my build. It's a chassis for Keith Tanaka's Hardbody class. There's a number marked on the central plate. I can't read it, but if you tell me, I can tell you exactly who the original owner was and for what plastic body it was designed for. The bracket is from Bryan Warmack, and the chassis, besides the guide tongue that was replaced, seems authentic. The bar in the back is a counterweight to help the car go around the long and wide donut from Buena Park Raceway flat-track. It works. Very well, by the way. I currently have the track record for that class.
But this is an early design; I changed how I am approaching the class. Picture attached.

Mike,

Do you mean an additional wire to keep the read weight plate from shearing off?

Thanks!

Scott

Marco,

Attached is the picture from the top. The number on the center plate is 8. The new design has definitely taken on a new look!

Thanks for letting me know,

Scott

Thanks Scott. Chassis #8 was sold to Chris Tanner from Texas. It was made to fit a Tamiya Porsche 962 body.

Thanks, Marco.

This was indeed Chris Tanner's chassis. I was a beneficiary of some of his kit after he passed last year. He had a heck of a collection. The Tamiya body is lost to the ages, but it's good t know what will fit it.

Chris hosted the Tyler Slot Car Club, in Tyler Texas, since it's inception until passing last year.. He was an avid, avid scale model racer and without reference, could give you facts and figures of all scales of racing. He was our own private version of Slotblog. lol. After each weekend's 1:1 racing, he'd type up a summary of the results for his best friend, Dave. Then the Club would gas about it at the weekly meeting. His model and scale car collection was not just slot car related kit, but also of RC and models both earthbound and skyward. it was astounding in scope.  That he would have a chassis built for him to fit a specific Tamiya model (of which he had loads) just to run a few laps then put it on a trophy stand, is pure Chris Tanner.

The slot racing world lost a good one in Chris Tanner. We miss him daily. Thank you for providing the provenance, Marco.

All the best,

Scott

Thanks to Marco's ID, I located a Tamiya Porsche 962 model kit reasonably priced by today's standards. I'll build a Hardbody using Keith Tanaka's rule set. It'll be hard to race at BPR from Texas, but I have family in the LA area. Perhaps it may make out there for a lap or two..
