Hey all,
For some time, I've been meaning to post here about the first Frostbite Retro Classic, held here at On The Edge, in Ft. Oglethorpe, GA, just across the river from Chattanooga. But COVID interrupted. Now I'm back in the saddle.
So this was February 24 and 25. Nick Farris did a bang-up job putting all the pieces together. If you've hosted a rac, for the first time, you'll know how difficult this can be. To Nick and proprietor Trent Layne for all they did to make a fine couple of days for the racers. I traveled from the Boston, MA, area, and the guys could not have been nicer, or more helpful.
Friday night was stock cars on their tri-oval, which is a sweet-running course. I hadn't run on an oval in many a year, and it was great fun. One must take care!
Saturday was devoted to Coupe, Can-Am, and F1, all of these on their King. Very nice track also! I believe most were using softer tires than we're accustomed to in the Northeast. This seemed to be because this track was glued more conservatively than we do, generally, in the Northeast. Same for everyone, right?!
Anyway, once I got the hang of the softer tire, I had a good, good day. Mid-pack in both Coupe and Can-Am. This just to say, you can travel to On The Edge, and you won't necessarily embarass yourself!
All in all, I can't say enough about my experience at the Frostbite. Tremendous. I got to meet lots of good people, including some of the Kelly boys. Very impressive!
Chattanooga, 15 minutes from the raceway, appears to be thriving, and has plenty of culture, and good restaurants,
enough of each to satisfy most spouses, I expect.
I hope to return for the Frostbite next year, and I recommend it to others.
