I must admit I'm a bit late getting this one posted. To the drivers, and to anyone else interested in seeing the results, I apologize. So, here comes...
March 18, 2023, and The Doghouse Gang chose to run our JK Indy Cars. If you've never driven one of these things, you're really missing something pretty special. These cars -- which setup properly -- are a total blast to run. They're fast and handle so well, it can make even a mediocre driver look good!
However, I was worse than a mediocre driver on this day. More on that in a sec.
We had a great turnout, with eight racers sharing some time on an early Saturday morning. The drivers:
(From L-R, standing: "Fast" Richard Sylvester, Dan Parker, Bob Arneson, and Dr. Bob Feller
From L-R, kneeling: David Erickson, Eric Prevost, Allen Evans, and Jim "SlowBeas" Beasley)
A pretty good group of guys gathered on this particular Saturday. I think we all enjoy running our JK Indy Cars:
We love these Indy cars. No one ever argues when someone suggests we race them. For this race, Richard lived up to his nickname, as no one could keep up, despite their best efforts.
Everything was working for him...the car, his trigger finger, and the stars were aligned in his favor, as he ran away with the victory. But everyone -- except for your scribe -- racked up some good lap totals. Fate was not on my side. Motor trouble struck me early, and it was impossible to overcome. I lived up to my nickname, too. But that's not a problem when you're having fun. To use a quote familiar to many golfers: "Even a bad day of racing is better than a good day of work."
Congratulations to Richard and all the other drivers for running a great race. Looks like schedules might preclude an April race, but we'll try to get together again as soon as possible for another Saturday showdown.
