I keep working on this childhood memory of 1960s wonder. Starting to put Lotus markings on her. I used vinyl from my vinyl printer but I just hand-cut it because I'm lazy. Notice the yellow stripe continues to the dash under the windscreen.
Being this is a '60s clear body. I built the interior parts from styrene.
We rarely did this in the '60s as I recall. We just painted the bodies and ran the cars with little details. I'm tempted to replace the vacuum-formed engine intakes and exhaust with crafted metal parts but then it takes away from the '60s vintage look of the cars back then. I'll at least paint the exhaust yellow.
It needs the rollbar and numbers to be sure. I'm looking forward to running this car on the Electric Dreams track this Saturday. It will be the first time I have run a car like this on a commercial track since I was 14 years old.
I got this frame with the Russkit motor installed and rear aluminium wheels and tires in a box of old '60s cars left behind by their former owner when he passed. My local hobby shop called me and said a woman brought in a big box full of old slot cars and a Revell track. If I wanted the box it was mine. No charge.
There were all kinds of parts from Stromberg to Eldon but this little Russkit motor really caught my eye and brought back fond memories.
I'll share some of the other stuff that was in the box in another post. The Revell track still works, controller, power supply, and all. I turned it into my second track and made it an dirt oval for my Midget racers I've always loved.
Maybe one of you can identify the frame in this Lotus. The front wheels and tires I found on eBay and they are vintage '60s.
The car runs very well on my larger track and the motor is still strong.
I forgot to mention I found the clear body on eBay cast from the original '60s mold.

Just a word of advice, if you want to run that car at Electric Dreams find some old AJ’s silicone tires or put rubber tires on or else you won’t be able to make one lap.

Front tires are K&B as well.
Motor is an early 16D Russkit "22".
Guide is a Rannalli.
Can't tell the wheels without a side view but the fronts look interesting.
Congrats on your return.

I had planned to do that when I get there.
Thanks.
