I asked this in another thread, but maybe this is a better place.  I raced USRA in the late 60s early 70s, classes at The Nats were all Group 7 - Pro, Semi Pro, Amateur and Novice.

I returned to racing in the 90s, now the Nats was Group 7 pro, Semi Pro and Geezer.  Also 27, International 15 and Box Stock,

Now "sort of" returning to racing, I still see Group 7 Pro, One or Two motor open, 27 lite, not sure what else.  Group 7 looks poorly attended, one and 2 motor looks very popular.

I am looking for a history lesson, a time line when did things change?  Also looking for opinions on why they changed.  Even in the 90s it seemed like Group 7 was pricing itself out of existence.

Even if you were only around for a portion of my history gap I would love to hear of your observations.

I think you'll have a better chance getting answers if you pose your question in this FB page.Screenshot_20230328_201207_Facebook.jpg

It would have had to be after 1981 because I attended the 81 Nats and the classes were as you discribed.

If anyone is interested, Ron Hershman gave a detailed response on the Wing Car Facebook page.
