1979 24 Hours of Le Mans Winning Porsche 935 K3

The most successful Porsche 935s in my opinion are the Porsche 935 K3s.  The "K" stands for Kremer.  Kremer Racing modified and tuned Porsche race cars.  The K3 version of the Porsche 935 had Kremer's own bodywork package that produced much more downforce than the factory aero package.  A second rear roof/window was added over the factory one resulting in better air flow to the free-standing rear wing.  All of the fenders have upper "fences" to produce downforce.  The front fenders also had louvers to produce downforce.  The cars even looked meaner than the factory cars.  Porsche 935 K3s were powered by twin turbo flat 6 engines.

Here is a slot car version of the 1979 24 Hours of Le Mans winner.  The car has a Nunu brand body with a few aftermarket detail parts added.  The chassis is an early Plafit inliner version.  These chassis work very well in short wheelbase configurations.  Part of the main chassis plate is cut off to shorten the wheelbase even further.  The wheels and tires are BRM brand.  Rear tires are foam.  A drag race spur gear is reamed out for a 3mm axle and gives a gear ratio of over 5 to 1.  The motor is a Falcon 7.  The driver helmet is painted to replicate Klaus Ludwig's.

The slot car is great fun to drive.  It handles well and jumps out of the turns.

Real nice build Rodney!

If I may ask you please, how does the chassis attach to the body?

Those wheel covers are awesome!

Thanks for sharing.

Thanks Ernie.  Here is the standard Plafit body mounting.  Brass plates attach to the aluminum shaker plate with screws.

Hi Rodney,

Thank you for taking the time to disassemble the car and take photos of how the body and chassis are attached.

It's appreciated Rodney!
