Here is what I call the HORSEPOWER ENGINEERING Slot Car Team.

The team cars came from a seller in Islip, New York.  The Pittman 196B chassis is the original chassis for car number 5.
The 36D sidewinder chassis that now resides in car number 5 came from a Glendora, California builder.  The car paint jobs and graphics are very '60s cool.

Car number 90 is a McLaren.  HORSEPOWER ENGINEERING is hand painted.
The car was cleaned up, and a couple of solder joints were repaired on the lightweight chassis.  The rotted front and rear tires and the motor's armature and end bell were replaced.
The body had a few cracks repaired, and I flared out the rear fenders (with needle nose pliers) to clear the larger diameter rear tires I installed.  A driver figure and larger roll bar were added.

Car number 5 is a Lotus that originally had the Pittman 196B chassis.
I decided to use an alternate chassis for the car.  A 36D sidewinder chassis was chosen.  This stressed motor frame allows for motor disassembly.  Rick really likes this chassis.
The parts from a French Motor Company rewound motor were inserted in the gold motor can.  Wheels are now Dynamic, and the rear tires are urethane.
The body was trimmed way too low, so I added the black rocker panels.   The original driver was glued back in place.

The Pittman 196B chassis from car number 5 was also restored.  The chassis had a few broken joints, and the tires were rotted out.  Rear wheels and German tires are now 1/32nd scale Dynamic.  New O ring front tires were fitted.

I have run the Lotus, and it is fun to drive.  The rewound motor has the right amount of power for the chassis.  Time to test the McLaren and the Pittman chassis.

Very cool cars and restoration Rod...  typical cars from about 1965, I'd say.

Great job restoring these vintage cars Rod. They look like they could have been built yesterday. Don maybe right when he says '65. My thought is maybe a couple years newer because both have rear bushings/bearings instead of brass tubing. That brass chassis under the Lotus is a beauty.

Hey, Islip is right around the corner from me.

Stay out of my territory

Of course, just kidding.

Great save as usual.

Again, many compliments to you for actually getting things done.

I have to try that  :roflmao:

Thanks Don, Bill and Joe.  The 16D powered McLaren is pretty fast and the car has neutral handling.  The car is fun to drive.  Early rewound motors work well with light weight chassis.

The Pittman powered chassis was tested with the copper Lotus body.  The car is also pretty fast and handles well.  Both of these cars handle better than the 36D powered car which is no surprise.
