Race 4 of the 2023 South Texas Scale Series will be on Saturday, June 10, at Magnatech Raceway in San Antonio. Local post-pandemic participation has really picked up, and we'd like to see as many racers as possible from anywhere come and test their skills on Jim Honeycutt's Engleman.
This race will mark the end of the "Spring" portion of the 2023 series as we will take a summer break until picking up again September 9.
If you haven't seen it, here's a link to the Race 3 race report from May 6 in Pflugerville:

Car-building rules are attached. This set is up-to-date and includes all changes and updates made thus far.

Scott,
I'd be interested in how the points system works. Do you have a PDF of that you might post?
Thanks and Happy Racing!

World and National Champion PA Watson brought his broom to San Antonio, sweeping the wins and TQs at Race 4 of the 2023 South TX Scale Series on June 10.
We had eight racers for LMP and ran four minutes on each of the six inner lanes to free up a couple of marshals. PA jumped to an early lead over Kurt Van Delden and me and held on for a three-lap win. Kurt and I tied for second, but I led on the track by about 15 feet for the place. Complete results are embedded below.
In Pro GTP, six racers ran crash-and-burn format on all eight lanes. PA ran a fairly conservative pace to avoid long time-outs often experienced in the format it was really never close after the second heat. Hayward Gaude and Oliver Green finished well-deserved two-three, while the rest of us were crash-and-burn chicanes. Again, complete results are embedded below.
Thanks again to Jim Honeycutt for the place to play, and to Cliff Wheeler for running the shop while Jim ran the show.

Yep. One of us gets lucky from time to time, but basically there's PA then there's everyone else.

Interesting P.A.'s choice of motor. When last I spoke with him, he was recommending a different one. Looks like maybe he ran exactly the same chassis only with different bodies for the two classes.

Does one drive the esses on Jim's?
If so,that might be a consideration.

That's exactly what he did, and not the first time he beat us with it, I'm afraid. In practice he tried a JK12BB motor and didn't like it as much..."really fast but too hard to drive..." he said. And with the glue freshened up and given we were going to run crash-and-burn, it was the right choice for sure.

With practice you can make good time through the esses and lead-on on red, white, and green. But the geometry of it all gets progressively more difficult to cope with as you head towards black. Set your car up loose as a goose and you can get through on black easily albeit slowly. And if, like me, when you're on black and tempted to race someone else through the esses, you're asking for trouble.
