Sunday, May 21, 2023, D3 Hardbody races at Buena Park Raceway.

Today's first race is for GTPs and Mid-Engine classes. A good turnout of racers today with 12 GTP entries.
While the track voltage has been reduced since last month, the racing has been a lot of fun with less deslots and more close racing.
Jim Lane was first in the GTP race, Keith Tanaka 2nd and Phil Nyland 3rd.
The GTP "Racer Handicap" podium had Jim LaBarba 1st, Bob Brown 2nd and Luke Grotano 3rd.

The Mixed race also had 12 entries. Jim Lane won again driving his Under 2 Liter Trans Am VW bug. Phil Nyland was 2nd and Hector Gonzalez 3rd.
The "Racer Handicap" podium had Nathan Williams 1st, Bob Ahulii 2nd and Bob Brown 3rd.

Thanks to Robert Range at Buena Park Raceway.
Thanks to Mill Conroy for race directing today.

Hello Keith,

I always enjoy your hardbody race reports.  Thank you.

Pickup trucks dominated the Mixed handicap podium and Gonzo place 3rd with his truck on the outright podium.  Question, do the builders of these cars believe the weight "out back" is advantageous?  As for instance the GTP field generally runs a fair amount of weight low behind the rear axle.  What is the thinking regarding these bodies?

Be well!

Spud, the weight behind the rear axle does tend to improve the rear tire traction. Another reason for the chassis extending beyond the rear axle is to protect the rear portion of the chassis from hard crashes or wall blasts. I tend to believe the rear weight helps to stabilize the car's handling somewhat.
