There is a custom Ford in town I always liked.  I purchased this built chop top Ford model car that kind of resembles the local car and converted it to a slot car.  The model definitely has the same "attitude" as the real car.

I believe the model builder started with a 1936 Ford model kit.  I touched up the paint with some Dupli-Color paint I had lying around.  I cut away the model car chassis and re-glued the car together.  Bumpers and running boards from a '40 Ford and aluminum exhaust pipe tips were also added.

I purchased the used Ram 857 motor and the International chassis from Joe.  Thanks, Joe.  An Ulrich front axle and body mounts were added to the chassis.  Wheels are Riggen with model kit trim rings and hub caps added.  Tires are urethane copies of Cox fronts and Revell rears.  Gears are Weldun with a 3-to-1 gear ratio.  I noticed the Ram motor has a very long motor brush spring that increases the brush tension to the perfect amount.  The motor sounds really strong on the Koford power supply.

Time for a track test.

Nice job Rod, as usual!

The Ram is an 857 - the 757 is by Boeing...

Another sharp car. It looks good in the dark green. I built the Monogram '36 Ford kit in dark blue during the '60s. If I remember correctly, it didn't come with a chopped roof but could be built as a hardtop or a convertible. It was a 1/24 kit.

Your very welcome.

It warms my heart to see that old chassis back on the road.

Of course another nice job.

Those big old Padlock motors are strong as Hell.

They just keep running and running.

Kind of like that old Erector set motor that chewed up your fingers when you were a kid  :laugh2:

I think the arm in that motor looked a little different from stock but who knows.

That thing should cruise real smooth with that Weldun gear ratio setup.

Bill, here is a convertible model.  Joe the motor is faster than a stock 12 volt and the car handles well and really jumps off of the line.

Looks even better in the second set of pics  :good:

Reminds me of a car you would see in those early little format Rod and Custom magazines.

The colors on the rag top are perfect for that car.
