I wanted to build a slot car of a street version of a Dodge convertible.  I found a Polar Lights brand factory-painted 1965 Dodge Coronet 500 convertible model and converted it into this slot car.  The driver figure is Carrera brand.

A used Ram 857 motor was rebuilt.  The motor was cleaned, the semi-rusty laminations were polished, and the magnet was zapped.  The motor was first rebuilt with a new 12-volt armature.  It was too slow, so a new 6-volt armature has now been installed.

A well-used International chassis was cleaned and straightened.  Weldun gears are used.  The mag wheels are Dynamic brand.  Rear tires are MINI-AUTO Germans.  Front tires are Riggens.  It took a little bit of fiddling to fit the large Ram motor in such a narrow car.  The narrow rear tires are right next to the motor case and pinion gear.  Fenders are thinned out for tire clearance.  I got the body to sit on the chassis with the ride height I was looking for.

The car really jumps off of the line and is fun to drive.  It does drive more like a street car than a race car around a road course.

That looks great Rod - ride height, wheels, chassis & motor combo and everything - perfect!

I've got another type of question for you: since you finish all these projects at an impressive rate, where do you store/display all these finished cars?

I ran out of space long ago, so it's always a challenge, but fortunately I don't finish too many projects...

One of my all-time favorite cars, done period correct.

Sweet, so much to see and like.

Love how you retained a lot of the original chassis.

The meats really fill the wells.

And the wheels are centered in the wells, a pet peeve of mine when they are not centered.

I try to do the same.

Paint is great, looks like Q3, one of my favorite Mopar colors next to B5.

Did you know our own Jairus did the box art for those Polar Lights Coronets?

Love it :good:

Thanks, everyone.  I did not know about Jairus' box art for Polar Lights.  It is great.

Don, I store most of the completed cars in slot car boxes.

For example, my vintage dragsters and parts are stored in two boxes.

Here is one of the boxes.

My vintage Champion chassis cars are stored in this box.

Some completed cars are also in old Jo-Han plastic cases.  I also have a couple of dioramas I use to display a few cars.
