On Saturday, August 19, we will race at Slot Car Raceway and Hobby Shop in Vero Beach, FL.

***Please keep an eye on this space for the latest updates before heading to the track as changes may be possible!***

The new facility looks fantastic and a King track has been added to the previous Hillclimb and Oval from Melbourne.
This will be the second time we have run at this raceway since they relocated from Melbourne.
We will run GT Coupe (Hillclimb), Can-Am (King), and Stock Cars (Hillclimb) in this order this time around.

NOTE: The track owners are hoping to have a new 140' tri-oval (the one from North Tampa) installed in time for this race.

If it is ready we will run the Stockcars on the new tri-oval so bring both your road course and LTO (left turn only) stockcars.
 ***Update 8/16/23***

In a discussion with Joe Milstead (Vero Beach track owner) he stated he would like to run the GRRR Stockcar race on his new (from N. Tampa) tri-oval track.  However he wants to run it using the inside 4 lanes turning into the infield section and the outer 4 lanes bypassing the infield and continuing around on the full tri-oval.  It sounds interesting, but there could be a problem where the cars on the blue lane are re-entering the tri-oval and swinging out into the path of the oncoming cars in the orange lane.  I've never run a race on a track in this type of configuration, much less this specific track, so I really don't know what to expect and would like to keep an open mind about it and let the racers decide on race day.

Here's what the GRRR Directors propose... On race day after the Can-Am race, and after there has been some additional time for racers to practice a bit on the tri-oval in this configuration, we take a vote as to whether we want to run the Stockcars on the Hillclimb or the tri-oval in this configuration.   We feel this would be the most fair thing to do for all involved.

NOTE: The in-store bathroom will be available for use only in the early hours when the around-the-corner bathrooms are closed.

However, when those bathrooms are opened racers will no longer be allowed to use the in-store bathroom.

Slot Car Raceway and Hobby Shop
1732 94th Drive, Suite G-160
Vero Beach, FL 32966
(772) 777-1200

Doors will open at 8 am.

Pit pass - $8.
Race entry $15 per class.
If all three classes are entered pit pass fee will be waived.

Tech for GT Coupe will open at 9:15. Qualify at 9:30.
30 min following GT Coupe we will run Can-Am.
30 min following Can-Am we will run Stock Cars.

Attention all racers: Pizza will be available at the track but if that's not your thing a local Subway will deliver lunch. However you have to pre-order. Please call the Vero Beach raceway at (772) 777-1200 to place the order which must be in by 4:00pm Monday, August 14.
It is $10 per meal which includes a sandwich (choice of turkey, ham, or roast beef), chips, drink, and a cookie.

I heard the stockers will be run on the tri-oval, with the four outside lanes running the oval and the four inside lanes running the infield.

Is this how the class will be run?

Back in the day we used to race FCR cars like that at Greg Walker's track.

When on the orange and blue lane you definitely had to time it to avoid a catastrophic wreck.

Oh yes, with that swing out on blue going into the orange lane as you transitioned back onto the oval portion of the track.

Did you load up the left side of the car with lead when you ran the oval and remove it when you had to run the road course portion?

The FCR cars were so heavy they didn't need much lead.

So I would hate assume what would work for a Retro car.

Thats just asking for a total loss of a chassis.

Ive asked why the date change weeks ago but havent got an answer. There have been other races scheduled that same date this race was rescheduled to. Why do track want to compete with other tracks? Wouldnt it be better for ALL RACERS AND TRACKS. To work with each other?

Brian:

This was changed about two weeks ago at the request of the track owner, it was pretty much that or nothing.  I mentioned that making this change to Saturday would likely reduce the attendance but he seemed OK with that, and after all it is his track.

I honestly don't remember seeing your post asking why the date was changed so I'm sorry I didn't give you a prompt response, my bad!

Brandon:

I will have to check with the track owner to find out the status of the "new" tri-oval.  If it is ready to go for the race on Saturday I would probably expect the Stockcar race to run on the full tri-oval with no infield engaged, BUT, I will call tomorrow and find out what the status of the new track is and report here.

I remember running a My Series 4" NASCAR race on the split track once.  Certainly interesting.

I wont be attending this race, but I had enough Butt Puckering Action Last weekend on Eddie's Oval in the Flexi Series. After Loosing the Race on the Oval Due to hitting a car in the straight away. The only Oval action I'll be entertaining going forward will be on Eddie's Oval Simply because of Retro Rumble, im too cheap to try dodging bullets on the Oval. I didnt even notice the car on my lane, im pretty good at racing ahead of my car but I missed the car on my slot in the bank and paid severally for it.

Should have had a race from the track to the Cracker Barrel restrooms.  All three attendees would have a podium finish!

Mainly changing the date of the race (at the request of the track owner) within a week or so of the previously announced date.   Also, many of the regulars work on Saturday and therefore couldn't make the race.
