Ok, I have some new enameled magnet wire that I will be using for some coils. I have tried to strip this stuff in the past but am generally unhappy with the results.

Who has suggestions for easy or fast ways to stop the ends of the enamel for soldering?

If it's stressed, sandpaper is the safest.

If non-stressed, a notched X-Acto blade is the quickest.

If it's stressed, sandpaper is the safest.

If non-stressed, a notched X-Acto blade is the quickest.

Always drag with the blade the backwards from the direction of scrapping.  Never move (cut) with the blade forward like you were whittling a branch.

Don,

Thanks for clarifying that.

My post wasn't very detailed.

Yes, you scrape away with the top of the blade angled away.

And I just use the notch.

The fact that the notch is in an X-acto blade is coincidental.

There is no "cutting" involved.

Just scraping using the surface not seen.

Thanks. I did use the sandpaper method this time, but I think Mike's custom x-acto would be nice.

I stripped these after I coiled, but while still on the jig.

Pics of the coils made, then installed.

Mike, What are these for?

Replaced the simple wire on a controller choke with the coils to get inductance.nsame length and gauge wire, but solid instead of stranded and a LOT neater.

Interesting

I never had luck using magnet wire.

Caught one on fire running an open car.

Nice to see one of my controllers I built still being used.
