FallBrawl.jpg

This summer in particular has been an unusually slow season for model car racing. The weather has been a factor with high temperatures over 100 degrees on what would have been race nights. In addition, vacations, home projects and other commitments have winnowed the field. With most of these issues behind us, I look forward to fantastic fall and winter seasons.

The first race of the fall season has been dubbed the “Fall Brawl” and includes the ever popular True Scale Trans-Am class and the inaugural Clubman contest. Track conditions were quite good for both classes. In total, six slot-heads participated in the “Brawl”. Unfortunately, regulars Mark, Scott and Mike had other commitments. Super Sub, Ken Robinson showed up running a couple of quick loaner cars provided by track owner, Rich.

  • In the Trans-Am race it was Rich, Joe and Bob for first through third respectively.
  • In the Clubman race it was Rich, Bob and Ron for first through third respectively

At Electron Raceway, we have been racing what I would call “Historic Trans-Am” cars since mid-2014. This class of cars features 1/25 scale 66-72 pony cars of the era. That being said, most racers have migrated to the 67-69 Camaro or 68 Firebird model bodies because they are the lowest and lightest of the available choices. H-bracket chassis such as Scholer, Scaleauto, Sloting Plus and 2NASTE are utilized. Power is supplied by ProSlot 16D or Deathstar motors.

Cars were quite evenly matched. Rich managed a win, while Joe, Bob, Ron and Lowell battled for the remaining podium spots. Ken ran a personal best with a 69 Camaro loaner car.

The True Scale Clubman class is ostensibly designed for short wheelbase, relatively narrow production sports cars. Competitors may select from one of many H-Bracket production chassis and use either Deathstar or ProSlot 16D power. To keep costs down, I will allow OSCAR based Clubman rides to participate as well. The OSCAR Can-Am chassis can be used topped with a Clubman body, so only a body swap is needed.

Cars were quite evenly matched. The grid was a mix of True Scale and OSCAR rides. Rich and Ron ran True Scale based Porsche 959s. All others ran OSCAR based rides to include Mazda RX7, Viper and Nissan Z.

Rich managed a win with Bob and Ron finishing second and third respectively.'
