There was a Nash Metropolitan race car at one of the Goodwood historic car races.  It did quite well in the race.  I think the race car is powered with a 1.8 liter four-cylinder push-rod engine equipped with two side draft Weber carburetors.  Ony one barrel of each carburetor is used.

I decided to build a 1/24th scale Nash Metropolitan slot car.  The body is from a Hubley promo car.  The roll bar is made of aluminum rod.  The decals are REH brand.

The chassis is a shortened H&R chassis.  The car is powered with a Parma D-can motor.  I do not know the maker of the threaded aluminum wheels.
Front tires are Revell, and rears are urethane Revell copies.  The guide is an M.R.R.C.

Amazingly, the car does not tilt in the turns.  The car is fun to drive.  Lap times are pretty good.  The Parma motor supplies good power.

I never would have thought making a car with one of these. One of my mother's friends had a turquoise & while one, like the above photo, in the '50s. As a kid, it was about the same size as a motorcycle. This old lady friend drove her Metropolitan through the Maine snow for several years. She lived in a small house trailer so was used to small spaces. You have made another unique slot car Rod. The H&R chassis I've driven handle well with urethanes. Over the year, I've seen one red & white & I think green & white. I think Nash built them for nine years.

So one of the first cars in my childhood memory was my mom's Nash Metro which I somehow recall had a 3 on the column stick shift. Funny how as a 5yo, it seemed like a huge car!

Cute subject Rodney, I like it. :good:

I am sad to say a friend asked me to cut one of these up last weekend and help him take it to metal recycle.

It was a project he was never going to get to and he needed the space. So it got cut. Too bad.

I would make a planter out of it before I junked it, just ask my wife.

Shortened chassis is an understatement. Nice work. How about an Izetta next?

Someone had built an Izetta on Facebook a year or two ago. It looked nice & I think it had a scratch chassis,

It was probably Mike Poniatowski. We've been sharing mold techniques over the last five or six years. He made an Izetta mold for me when he made his own. It was a scratch build chassis. He said it ran quite well considering the small size. You can reach him at   mikeponiatowski@hotmail.com   if anyone is interested.   He has several unique bodies and interiors.

Yes, it was Mike. If I remember correctly, he's in the Chicago area.
