Anyone recognize this? Initial thought is it's a vintage Champion chassis, but I really have no idea. Will likely lower the upper motor brace and put a Falcon/Hawk motor in it.

Never saw one before. In the photos, it looks like it could be someone's scratchbuilt womp. Measure wheelbase,
guide lead, & width at pans.

Interesting motor mounting system. It looks like you would have to solder on opposite sides of the motor to get it out.

Use a razorblade like wing car racers do.

That is one clever motor mount!
l think Bill's nailed it that it's a scratchbuilt.

It has a Womp wheelbase, the pans are .024" wider, and the guide lead is about .25" longer than a Parma Womp. I still think this was built for a long nose Womp body of some sort and I agree it was probably built for a D-can motor.
Your plan to use a Falcon/Hawk is a better idea.

Those are really odd dimensions for a Womp or 1/32 chassis - it's too wide. Womps and most modern 1/32 scale bodies are only 2.5" wide, and this one is almost 2.75. The pin tubes look too far apart for mounting a typical Womp body. I'm wondering if there wasn't a motor mounting bracket on this originally. I saw a Jersey John retro chassis today that was very similar design to this with the same sort of wire bracing on the rear for a motor bracket. Definitely scratchbuilt for something, because most Womp racing classes wouldn't allow a scratchbuilt.

What 1/24 body has a 3" wb? Any? Only the builder knows why those dimensions were used. The rest of us are guessing.

Sort of - the original Womp-Womps were 1/32 but 1/24 wide afaik. 3" wb. The tires came widely out of the fenders.
