I am not a Turbo S person. That doesn't mean that I do not appreciate or understand the Turbo S, as after many track days prior to receiving it, I knew exactly what I was getting. I was offered this build after many failed allocations to get a GT3. Everytime my order was either cancelled due to parts availability, or the build was continually pushed back. To keep me at bay, Porsche offered me a Turbo S configured however I wanted including Paint to Sample. I was able to get it below MSRP so I figured why not as I could sell it as the GT3 became close, make a few bucks and enjoy some seat time. Almost 28 months later, 9 lengthy delays, the car finally arrived at PECA in Georgia. Ralph Thorne and I took delivery of the car about a month later. We were given track time, a free lunch and the grand tour. I have had this experience a couple times, but it was nice to let a friend experience it as well. They even had his name on the sign in the delivery area, LOL. The day was great and the food even better.

The color is called Fire Red. It was a standard color for the 911R. It is the only Turbo S painted in this color and the last Porsche painted in the color as it was discontinued after my car was built. It is actually a Ferrari paint code. If you like red cars, it is the right color. As most of us are familiar with Guards Red, what separates the two is that Guards Red has orange in it and Fire Red has green. As a red car guy, I love it. It also has the lightweight package which gives you the carbon roof, carbon buckets and lightweight glass. It has the now discontinued Sport Design package and three pages of options. It was a fun build and it gets a lot of attention and is a monster. On my Dragy I have recorded a best 0-60 of 2.0 a handful of times. Top speed of 208 mph and 1/4 mile 9.9 three times. All in stock trim and at around 4,400 feet altitude. I have launched it everytime I have driven it and by far that is the most fun part of the car. Challengers and Chargers seem to always want to race it and it has yet to work in their favor.

I am now in a dilemma as this is where I should be letting go of it as my GT3 is scheduled to be built in the next few months. But I am at the point that doing suspension (which I have), wheels and a Stage 2 kit that puts the car at a reliable 920 HP. I love the car.

As much as you like the car, is it really so important to take the GT3? The owner of the company I retired from had a GT3 that he bought for no other reason than it was the most expensive car on the lot. That car probably never topped 70 mph while he had it. (he was 88-years old at the time). I drove it from the front parking lot of the facility to the rear one, about a quarter to a half mile. I really needed to take it to a track day to make a proper evaluation, but ergonomically, it wasn't for me. I could probably have a lot of fun with your Turbo S, and that would have been enough.

Track days are over for me' I shouldn't be driving at all. So now I am choosing nice drivers over flat-out performance cars for my short little trips.

I have seen that car in person and the pictures don't do it justice. It is the most beautiful mechanical thing I have ever seen. It's hard for me to imagine how a GT3 could top this combination of color, options, and sheer beauty. I would do your mods and keep it! the added bonus is you don't have to go through the ordeal of selling it! Besides you told me I could drive next time I came to race!

Amazing! Stunning performance! Hmmm, would make an interesting 1/24 body...

So, Matt, if you are looking to be talked into keeping the Turbo, I think you have found that here.

If you just want to puff out your chest and say you own a GT3, then go for it. Myself, I would keep the Turbo and use it as a track day car (and take a little road trip from time to time when I was feeling a bit naughty). Make the mods you feel you need, tailor the car to what you really want. And enjoy the hell out of it.

Depends on what you’re into as I assume they are two different drives… My experience is with 997 Turbo S compared to 997 GT3. It depends on which drive you want… I personally I prefer the GT3 drive…
