I finally found a Riggen Cyclone II RTR to add to my collection. It's been run and has some wear marks in paint plus a few small cracks but that validates it is not a repop. The #2 decal on it is also proof that it came as a ready to run. Been collecting for 35 years and this is the first one I have seen. I cleaned it up and refreshed the tires and polished the rims . The motor is a Cox NASCAR motor, I think they used them in their RTR cars and I fixed a few cracks.

Doc might be able to validate that this is a vintage piece.

I compared this body to my classic serpent and the body is wider and the decal design is on all the 1/24 Riggen RTR cars . There is a Riggen 1/24 RTR Nissan Can-Am with same chassis , motor , and decal with original box on eBay now .

Best Regards,

Don

I'm definitely nothing near to being Doc, but I have never seen a motor held in place with a brass strap that can be seen from the bottom!  There's too much "wrong" with this car to be authentic IMO!   Looks a lot like a Cox Serpent to me!

If you look at the Riggen Nissan Can-Am on eBay it has the same exact chassis , motor , brass strap, wheels and decal . I would attach the auction but it failed when I tried to attach it .

Best Regards,

Don

Here is a picture that Doc published in a response to a question about this car . Turns out to be a rare car to find .

I would add Riggen ripped Classic off by back pouring the body and then making it fit there chassis.

Anybody got any other version of how this could happen?

It may well of been that Classic was out of the game when Riggen made these RTR cars?

.....and maybe Classic sold the rights to that shape, I would like to think the designer or owner of such a cool shape got his dues.

I think Riggen started late in the game around the late 60s early 70s when everybody else had folded . These were probably the last production RTR CARS IN 1/24 scale . That would explain the copied body , Cox motor in their chassis . Nobody cared about using other manufacturing parts after the crash in 68. I do not think they made or sold that many due to all the tracks closing . You can find these Riggen RTR cars in Autoworld catalogs from the period mentioned above .

That chassis has been covered in a previous forum.  It was available in in-line (full pans and cut-outs) and anglewinder, with versions for 16D, 26D and 36D (Nascar).  The brass support for the 36D is correct.
