I have several Classic Industries slot cars with various chassis used. But this one stumps me. Very similar to the Manta Ray. But the drive for the motor is flipped. Any ideas?

I believe it's the second version of the Manta Ray chassis. First version did not have the adjustable bracket for different gear ratios.

My Manta Ray has no bracket on the can end. I figured it was just missing it. Otherwise it is identical to my Manta Ray.
So they must of switched the motor. Originally this frame had a blue motor. It was in bad shape so I replaced it with this red one. Not a Classic motor.
But it does have the endbell drive needed to work with the gears on the driver side. As did the blue motor.
Did Classic make an end bell drive motor the size of a 360?
Gears are plastic, by the way.
Edit: Just looked on Ebay. There are several Manta Rays with ebd motors.

This a stock Manta Ray chassis and would have a Classic orange Can drive motor. This is the second adjustable version.
Classic made an end bell drive motor, early version. Both 36d. (360)

Version 1 and 2 are CM250/36d end bell drive
Version 3 and 4 are CM360/FT36d can drive, with brush heat sinks and separate motor bracket with 2 screws.

Thank you Gene, I was hoping you would add more detail here. I know you have explained the body difference to me before also. But have not managed to retain it.
Lots of ebay Manta Ray action at this time.
