Another great Saturday of racing at The Doghouse in beautiful downtown Gilbert, S.C.
On this sunny Saturday, we even had a surprise guest. Master-chassis-builder Don Weaver drove in to join us for the day. It was great to see Don again. We don't get to visit much since he moved away from nearby Lexington to return home to the desolate, cold, ugly, vermine-ridden neighborhoods of Greenwood, S.C.
For our October race, we chose Retro Can-Am. We had a good turnout of racers, too. Six drivers and one turn marshal (Don).
(Front: Dr. Marty Cwiakala, Don Weaver
Back, L to R: Dan Parker, Dr. Bob Feller, Richard Sylvester, Allen Evans, Jim Beasley)
Some of the gang had other plans for the day and were unable to make it. Maybe in November...
But enough of the faces, here are the cars that we ran for the day -- along with a Don Weaver creation, added for good looks:
Front row: Allen, Dr. Bob, Marty, Beas
Back row: Don, Richard, Dan

The track ran well, although it was noted that our speeds had dropped a little since the last Retro Can-Am. Still, we turned a lot of laps and had a blast doing so. We ran two races, with each racer running three minutes in each of the four lanes.
In the second race, I was running the clock when not on the track and "accidentally" let the clock tick off about 5 or 6 seconds when the clock should have been frozen for a track call. My bad. To make it up, I deducted two laps from my 2nd race total, which meant Dr. Marty got me by a half lap!
But we have to take our hats off to Dr. Bob, who increased his lap total by 25 laps from the first race to the second. That's an average of 6.5 laps per three-minute heat. What an improvement! If we'd run a third race, no telling how many laps he'd have turned!
No decision yet on what we'll race in November, but we'll try to post some info when we do. Until then, remember, they're just toy cars. Have fun.
