GRRR Racers: Please be aware of all of the latest IRRA rules posted, below are just some of the ones that affect the bodies.

1. Make sure that all of your interiors are mounted to the body (not the chassis) and that the driver is in a "reasonable" position to see out the windshield.

2. Make sure the interior is at least reasonably detailed (doesn't have to be concours) and not just given a few quick stripes of color.

3. Also please be aware that as of March 1st the Stockcar bodies will be measured on the roof, hood, sides, and a 10 gram minimum weight will be required.

Please be aware since some manufacturers insist on making IRRA style bodies in a thinner material (i.e. <.015" material) it is up to the racer to ensure that the body they bring to tech is within the specifications.

Note: I will be checking bodies closely to the existing specs for the February race but it would be smart to try to meet the upcoming specifications.

***IMPORTANT NOTE FOR ALL GRRR RACERS***

There will be a change in location for the race to be held on May 19th, the new location is now South Daytona

This change is due to Crazy 8's Raceway (Lakeland) selling their Orange track.

Please check the schedule in post #1 of this thread often for the latest schedule info.

**Sunday- May 19 ------- S. Daytona --- GT Coupe, F-1 (all races on the King)**

So the "Sunday May 19 Lakeland  GT Coupe (Black), Can-Am (Orange), Stock Car (Orange)" race has been moved?

Also where is the S.Daytona track? Assuming it is not the Daytona track.

nvm It's this one:

2400 S. Ridgewood Ave.

South Daytona, FL 32119
(386) 295-1371

Still wondering where the Orange Crush track is in DeLand can't find anything about that one.

The Orange crush track is a private track in Jay Guard's home.

Very nice from the pictures I have seen.

I see, when he said "home track" he meant in his house, not the one nearest to him.

It looks super nice for sure, I guess I will stop looking for it now.

Thanks for the info.

Jim:

I'm not sure if you are aware that when we say "Orange" track it is in reference to a particular shape of track.  Way back in the 60"s the American Model Car Raceways (AMCR) company, which was probably the largest track manufacturer, made several shapes of tracks and each shape was painted with a particular color.

Hence you will hear us sometimes say terms like Blue King, Black Regal/Royal, Orange Monarch, or even Red Imperial, among others.  Since most of us know what each shape looks like we usually just shorten the description to the color.  There is even the situation where the shape of the track has been made in a mirror image of the original track's shape and hence it would be called a "reverse Orange".

In the case of the track located in my house it should probably be most correctly called a reverse Orange.  But since the size of my Man Cave required the track to be slightly smaller than an original Orange track from one side of the track to the other I decided to simply call it "Orange Crush".  You ought to stop by sometime and check it out, it's a fun fast track to run or race on.

Thanks, Jay I was aware of that fact that somehow the names of tracks were historical.
By knowing the name of the company, I was able to google this.

Theres probably even more out there.

Oh yeah, I forgot to ask what's with the chairs and steering wheels on some of the AMCR tracks?

Oh yeah, I forgot to ask whats with the chairs and steering wheels on some of the AMCR tracks?

The track was braided in sections (straights and turns). You would turn the wheel left or right to match the corner your car was in and centered for straights. If you look at the picture of the Aristocrat 135 you can see the pedal on the floor which controlled the power to the lane.

Jim:

The chairs and steering wheels (and accelerator pedal) was a early concept that AMCR had that required the driver to have the steering wheel turned in the correct direction before any power could be applied via the gas pedal to that particular turn. It was a wiring nightmare under the track and a very unpopular concept.

At the Aloma Model Raceways where I raced in the '60s we had a black Regal track that had the steering wheels, chairs, and gas pedals. Basically nobody ever ran on that track.
