Bryan, just curious; are the bigger races at Piranha gearing towards IRRA rules? No criticism here, just wondering. I know i don't race much any longer, just kind of wanting to know. Thanks Bryan.
Tom,
Yes, next year the major Retro races at Piranha Speedway, beginning with the Checkpoint Cup in January, will be run under IRRA rules. Everyone just felt that using the IRRA rules would encourage and make it easier for more racers nationwide to participate in Piranha events. This change only concerns the major races on the King track.
On any major races on the Flat track, the SCRRA rules will still be in effect and the only race still being run in big races is the anglewinder Retro Coupe class. We lost the F1 Flat track races through lack of participation and many racers have asked me to make sure we keep the Retro Coupe race going. If the racers show up and race we'll keep it going....
As far as the monthly races at Piranha are concerned, we have for a while now been allowing both SCRRA and IRRA cars to run together on the King track. The cars are so close it really doesn't make much of a difference in performance and for the monthly races we haven't had any formal tech inspection for a while anyway, (since COVID) as we are just trying to get more racers to show up and we haven't had any issues with cheaters.
Piranha Speedway and the SCRRA will make a formal announcement concerning these changes shortly. As it stands now the major Retro races using the IRRA rules at Piranha next year will be the Checkpoint Cup in January, the Cukras Zimmerman in April, the Western States in July and the Boola Bash in October. More to follow...
