I'm still educating myself and would like to know if there is a need for concern that the ESC board (chip?) getting too hot.
If so, what could be the cause?
Thank you for your assistance.

Ernie if geared properly the esc will not get hot.
Heat is a tell tail that things aren’t right with the setup, gear lash too tight, a binding axel…..

We ran a 6500kV for almost an hour straight with a few different drivers & nothing got hot.

One of the Mid-America RTR brushless smoked their ESC while they were practicing with it at Piranha Raceway on Saturday. FWIW

was it under warranty?
Posted 24 December 2023 - 10:24 PM
Makes you wonder what may have been going on there ???
Those RTR's only use a quite Mild motor 3000kv I believe, which would Not put the ESC under Any undue stress if All was well with the car generally ??
The Only 'DoSlot' ESC we have had Fail here in Aus' (that I am aware of), was in a Wing Car race, 6th bracket, running an 11,000kv motor and very high rpm.

I was not aware that Mid-America has an RTR brushless slot car!
I just attempted a search but did not find anything.
Does anyone have a link or more info on this item please?
I'm curious to read more about it.
Thank you.

I know that at the P1 enduro when one of the brushless motors "smoked" the motor and the ESC were really hot. There might have been a mechanical problem with the car that caused the problem but I'm not sure about that.

Are you sure about that?
That a motor smoked in the Enduro?
Looking at the below post from last week, I read it as the motors in the enduro ran trouble free.

Mike 7 drivers showed up for that regular weekly race and wanted to run the brushless cars.
Some of them have their own “enduro cars” that were purchased/built at the track.
The track owner provided cars to the others for the race.
It was stated above that one of the cars did indeed have a problem at the enduro race that didn’t finish.
Last night 12-26-23 7 drivers raced the brushless cars again instead of the spark plugs.
Looks like it might be a weekly race, time will tell.

You talk about all the laps these cars have run at P1.
How many ESC'S have they blown?
Not just in that race, but total?

You would have to ask Marcus those questions.
He can answer them.

That's right, you are only an expert on the 5,000 lap ones that didn't blow.
I stayed out of your lane and then you make your snarky "Nobody wanted to run tin cans" or refer to the motors that have kept slot racing going the last 60 years, or in the case of the FK style motor, the last 20 years, as "spark plugs".
All I would have to do is post screenshots of the last few FB brushless posts where top racers and raceway owners are having major issues.
Lot's of guys had solutions to problems, but never mentioned them ahead of time, because I guess it's supposed to be cheerleaders only.
Until those recent posts, I had never heard high spots on the track braid shorts out the chassis or the cars/E comms don't tolerate less than great/fresh car braid and contact to the track braid.

Mike:
During the Enduro Race I was sitting right next to the Tawney/Demole pit when the car just stopped running, I really don't recall if there was any actual smoke. They brought it into their pit and weren't sure if it was the ESC or the motor. I saw them touch both and they were both too hot to touch. That's about all I know for sure, I'm not sure of the exact cause of the failure.

Good thing there are zero issues with the brushed motors we've been running for 60 years. Not a single smoked motor in all that time. And the $20 disposable motors last forever. Praise the armature gods for bestowing us with such infallible equipment.
Now back to the regularly scheduled bickering.

These were the problems I had so far, 3 ESC and 2 motors. Regarding Enduro, there was a car that burned the ESC and a car that broke the motor wire. The ESC car already had more than 3k laps when it had a problem, the other one with the wire problem had more than 3.5k laps and it looks like someone pressed the wire down causing it to break.
Marcus,
To be clear, I don't have any animosity towards you.
You, of course, can race brushless motors, and are welcome to report the results.
You are not obligated to post failures.
In other words, you are welcome to be just a cheerleader.
My issue is just with Bags and these comments;
"Last night P1 had a regular weekly race. Nobody wanted to run tin cans so they ran the brushless enduro cars."
Reading that, one would think ALL your racers are fed up with the current motors you race, and started chanting "We want brushless, we want brushless".
If that was indeed the case, feel free to confirm that.
Bags post from 2 hours ago;
"Last night 12-26-23 7 drivers raced the brushless cars again instead of the spark plugs."
I've been deeply involved with slotracing 50 out of the last 60 years, and that's the first time I heard a slot car motor referred to as a "spark plug".
"Spark", in reference to anything electrical only (not an ICE), implies dangerous or defective.
If Bags is indeed your authorized/official promoter, you have to convey to him, that on Slotblog, you don't promote your product by primarily badmouthing the alternative.
This is not Facebook or the corner bar.
