Beginning this Saturday, Jan.6, the Flat track Retro racing at Piranha will be moved from the 2nd Saturday of the month to the 1st Saturday.  We hope to encourage more racer participation with this move and we will be also returning the F1 class to the Flat track, as many racers were asking about bringing it back. It will be run using the SCRRA rules as will all the Retro races on the Flat track.

As many of you know, the King track Retro races have recently been run using the IRRA rules and this will continue for all the major races in 2024.  So, we have IRRA rules on the King track and SCRRA rules on the Flat track. Not really much difference between the two except the SCRRA rules on the Flat track do not allow CR102 motors, weighted guides and a few of the higher downforce bodies.

At the major events in 2024, in all likelihood, the only Flat track races will be the SCRRA Retro Coupe which is the Anglewinder class we have been running for a while. Most of the major Retro races at Piranha in 2024 will be on the King track using IRRA rules.

More to follow on this as the year progresses. As usual at all the monthly races on either track we've allowed both types of cars to run and the tech inspection has been casual at best!  We're just looking for people to come race and have some fun!

Happy New year to everyone and wishing all a great 2024!  :good:

In order to simplify-- why not just run either IRRA or SCRRA cars on the flat track?  That way all that have changed cars to IRRA specs can run on the flatster or the King--and no need to change motors. Just a thought--- all racing is good!!  More racers is great!

Tim, the only class that is a for sure thing on the flat track is angle winder coupe to my knowledge…. Which is not an IRRA class. I don’t think anyone wants to get rid of that class in favor of an inline coupe class on the flat track. I certainly don’t. It is hands down my favorite class when I go down there. I, as many others have a large inventory of motors that can only be used on the flat track and have had them since the arrival of the 102’s. As of now, keeping the 102’s on the King is a good choice in my view. I’d imagine at some point in time that will change. For me, racing on the flat track is the biggest reason I go. Hope you can make it to the CP!

I'm saying run  ANY class of cars-- don't eliminate any! I"m saying run EITHER of them.  My favorite track is the flat track. I don't think the 102 motors will have an advantage there.  Just like the MTT flat track in Buena Park--the preferred motor on that was still the TSR!!  Horsepower is not king on the flatster--and yes I love the angle winder coupes too. But changing out guide flags if you have  a weighted one is a pain--and if you don't have a large stock of retro hawks--run the 102.  I'd be running that with a choke anyway.  It's just a way to get more people to cross over and race the flat track. And the IRRA bodies are no big deal either.  I don't have that many of the SCRRA bodies left-- and I don't have any other place I would race them.  The higher downforce IRRA bodies might help bring MORE people over to race on the flat track

FWIW

I think the 102’s would be a bit of an advantage because of the torque and the brakes from the Neo Magnets. As much as people disliked racing F1 on the flat track, I loved it. They just couldn’t get participation.

Personally, you can add me to the list of racers that preferre racing on the flat track and angle winders on either track. Inline technology was outdated by 1968. Inlines suck, both then and now and using the king track for every race is too much about the motor and repetitive. Does any one else feel like I do?

Like Charlie I LOVE the flat tracks and prefer them!  Looks like we're going to have a great one soon from the East!!  Looking forward to having a premier flat track at Piranha!! World Class racing in ALL forms!!  Thank you Richard!!

As the SCRRA guys know, I haven't run on a King track in years. Much prefer flat tracks. I agree Charlie. The new track coming to Pirahna does look nice.
