Official OSCAR Rules

(Oregon Slot Car Auto Racers)

 

Editor’s Note: For all local races at STR, only sealed motors will be permitted

 

OSCAR General Racing Rules

  • Tires
    • No tire changes until first heat is completed
    • After tire change,  car must be re-teched to .055” clearance
  • Body parts dislodged during a race must be re-attached during the next pit stop. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
  • Iron Men
    • Only the Ironmen can work on their cars between the B Main and the A Main.
    • These cars will be re-teched before the start of the A Main.
  • Technical Inspection
    • The front of the car can be teched with the guide either on the flat part of the block or in the recess.
    •  All wheels must touch the ground and chassis have proper clearance.

 

General Rules for Vehicle Preparation & Racing

  • Track Preparation
    • No Tire Gluing Allowed
    • Track Gluing by track owner only
  • Chassis
    • All chassis must have beveled pans to protect track surface from gouging.
    • Must be a 90 degree inline configuration
    • Chassis may be constructed using any material.
    • Cars will have a minimum of .055” ground clearance.
    • Chassis cannot be visible or protrude past the body perimeter when viewed from above or through the driver’s compartment. Visible chassis parts must be painted black or darkened as not to show.
    • Either oilites or ball bearings are legal for axles unless stated otherwise.
  • Tires
    • All four tires must touch and roll on the track.
    • All tires will have black sidewalls
    • No tire will have less than ¾” diameter.
    • When viewed from above, tires may not extend beyond the widest part of the wheel opening, when the chassis is at its center of lateral movement.
    • Front wheels must not be partially hidden by the front or rear edges of the stock front wheel well. (This does not include the top of the well.)
  • Bodies
    • Guide flags must not extend past the foremost part of the body when viewed from above.
    • All cars will have a painted, detailed driver to scale. Interior cockpit tray must conceal the whole chassis.
    • All cars will be painted. (Clear coat does not count) and numbered in at least three places. Numbers will be at least ½” tall.
    • All bodies will begin races intact and complete; with no missing parts. Bodies will have front and rear windows.
    • Replacement windows other than stock are not allowed.
    • Bodies may not be stretched or modified to fit the chassis.
    • Bodies may not have material moved unless specified in the Modification section of the class.

 

 

General Motor Rules

  • Any D can motor up to and including S16D open large arm for any class. Stock falcon may also be run. No shunting, no shimming. Arm must be labeled. No outlaw unlabeled American arms.
  • Sealed Motors (unless otherwise specified)
  • Super 16D Parma #502, ProSlot # PS2003, PS2002, Parma 16D #501, Any FK style motor is permitted (These include, Falcon, H&R Plafit, Chicagoland etc.)
  • Motor brushes and springs may be adjusted or replaced.
  • No shunts allowed

 

 

 

 

Specific Open Motor Rules

  • Only Super 16D set-ups allowed.
  • Super 16D Arms allowed
  • No Rewinding or Dewinding allowed
  • No shimming magnets
  • Replacement magnets allowed- no cobalt or neo magnets allowed
  • Ball bearings and oilites allowed in either end of motor.
  • Blueprinting allowed
  • No shunts

 

 

OSCAR Class Specific Rules

 

  • Early Trans Am
    • Scale: 1/24, 1/25
    • Years: 1964 to 1974
    • Motors: Parma 501 and 502,  Proslot PS2003 and PS2002, and FK style sealed motors
    • Drivers: Vacuformed or Resin cast
    • Bodies: Body height from bottom of chassis to top of car must be at least 1.695 “
    • Bodies may not be flared to add extra width unless flairs were part of the kit. Driver is responsible to authenticate Trans Am participation for any kit to tech officer. All OSCAR general rules apply.

 

  • Late Model NASCAR
    • Scale:   1/24,1/25
    • Years:  1980 to Present
    • Bodies: Replica of an American made “NASCAR” sedan no ASA cars
    • Drivers: Vacuformed or resin cast
    • Body height: 1/24 bodies shall not be less than 1 7/8” tall measured from ½” behind the windshield at the center of the roofline to the bottom of the chassis (air dams excluded) 1/25 excluded from this rule but must not be lowered at all.
    • Modifications: Bodies may be trimmed to remove part of the front spoiler and side air dams (to stock valence height for proper track clearance
    • Motors: Open Super 16D, FK style sealed motors

 

  • Super Stocks
    • Years: 1958 thru 1979
    • Driver: Vacuformed or resin cast
    • Bodies: Replica of an American sedan or coupe
    • Body height: Configuration and roofline must be production stock
    • Modifications: Trimming of the lower valence is allowed for proper guide flag clearance. Rear wheel wells may be radiused to fit rear tires
    • Motors: Open Super 16d, FK style sealed motors

 

  • Early Model (Vintage) NASCAR
    • Scale 1/24, 1/25
    • Years 1949 thru 1957
    • Driver: Vacuformed or resin cast
    • Bodies: Replica of an American sedan, coupe or convertible with top attached
    • Modifications: Trimming of the lower valence is allowed for proper guide flag clearance. Rear wheel wells may be radiused to fit rear tires
    • Motors: Parma 501 or 502, Proslot PS2002 or PS2003, FK style sealed motors

 

  • Production Sports Cars
    • Scale: 1/24 , 1/25
    • Years: Open
    • Bodies: Any Production Sports Car Body that does not exceed 3.25” in width. Note that non-production cars may be allowed at local tracks – all other rules apply
    • Drivers: Vacuformed or resin cast
    • Roll bar required for roadsters
    • Body height: Configuration and roofline must be production stock
    • Modifications: Trimming of the lower valence is allowed for proper guide flag clearance. At least 1/16th must be left in place at the bottom of the air intakes
    • Motors: Parma 501 or 502, Proslot PS2002 or PS2003, FK style sealed motors

 

  • Clubman
    • Scale 1/24 , 1/25
    • Years: Open
    • Bodies: Any Production Sports Car Body that does not exceed 2 15/16” in width
    • Rear tire  track may not exceed 2 7/8” in width
    • Drivers: Vacuformed or resin cast
    • Rollbar required for roadsters
    • Body height: Configuration and roofline must be production stock
    • Modifications: Trimming of the lower valence is allowed for proper guide flag clearance. At least 1/16th must be left in place at the bottom of the air intakes
    • Motors: Parma 501 or 502, Proslot or PS2003, FK style sealed motors  

 

  • Jalopy
    • Scale: 1/24, 1/25
    • Years: 1932 to 1948
    • Bodies: Replica of a stock American-made sedan. Convertibles must use top supplies with the kit. No custom chopped cars permitted
    • Driver: Injection molded or resin cast. The Drivers chin may not be lower than the bottom of the side window.
    • Body Height: Configuration and roofline must be production (kit) stock.
    • Special Requirements:
      • All Running Boards must be plastic and in stock positions. Kits without running boards may utilize 40 thousands styrene fabricated running boards.
      •  Open Hoods are allowed but a fully detailed engine with a Firewall must be installed.
      •  Open cowls must be covered to conceal the chassis.
      • Bumpers and torpedo lights are optional.
      • Front and rear track must be inside body

 

  • Motors: Parma sealed T10, Parma sealed Deathstar, Parma Sealed Super 16D, ProSlot PS 2002 and 2003, FK style sealed motors
  • Econo/Sportsman
    • Bodies: Any 1/24 or 1/25 scale '58 to '72 American full size or mid-size make of car. (No pony cars, like Mustang, Camaro, Cuda or Challenger).
      • Front and Rear wheel wells may be radiused for tire clearance.
      • Configuration and roofline must be production (Kit) stock.
      • Only a front windshield is required (may be plastic or realistic screen.
    • Chassis: Chassis must be a (rattle chassis) No hinges, or floppy pans.
    • Motor: Parma sealed Deathstar 16D Part # 501. Motor brushes, springs and wires can be adjusted or replaced. No other modifications can be made. Seal must be intact PS 2002, FK style sealed motors.
    • Tires, Wheels and Axles:
      • Front tires must be 7/8" dia. x 1/2" minimum width
      • Rear tires must be 1" dia., they may be narrowed
      • Axles must be 1/8" front & rear (no ball bearings allowed)
      • Front tires must remain stock other than the option of coating them with polish or super glue.
    • Gears: Any ratio as long as they are 48 pitch
    • Tech: Minimum roof height is 1.850" from bottom of chassis to the highest point of top. All cars will be teched for roof height.
    • Track: A maximum width of 3.250" is allowed for front and rear track.

 

  • NASTRUCK
    • Chassis – Econo
    • Motor – Same as Econo NASCAR
    • Track – Same as Econo NASCAR
    • Bodies – NASCAR truck bodies or truck kits made to resemble NASCAR truck bodies

 

 

  • Econo, Vintage
    • Chassis – Econo
    • Motor – Same as Econo NASCAR
    • Track – Same as Econo NASCAR
    • Bodies – 1949 – 1957 (no body height modifications)

 

  • Dirt Devil
    • Chassis – OSCAR chassis and rules
    • Motor – Same as other OSCAR classes
    • Track – Front: Cannot see inside of tires as viewed from above
    • Track – Rear: 3.25 inches maximum
    • Bodies – Any (No sports car or NASCAR may be cut to lower height

 

  • Early Modified – See True Scale Rules

 

  • Flexi
    • Chassis – 4 inch, any manufacturer
    • Motor – Any FK style sealed or 16D sealed motor
    • Track – Front and Rear: 3.25 inches max.
    • Bodies – NASCAR Bodies only - Must Meet Tech Block Specs

 

  • ProTrack NASCAR
    • Chassis - Brass ProTrack or H&R
    • Motor – Any FK style sealed motor
    • Track – Front and Rear 3.07 inches
    • Bodies – 1982 and later (cannot trim or cut)
    • Any weight (lead, brass, etc.) added to the chassis must be securely affixed to the chassis itself

 

  • ProTrack NASCAR – Vintage
    • Chassis, motor and track – same as ProTrack NASCAR
    • Rule regarding added weight – same as ProTrack NASCAR
    • Bodies – 1950s through 1969 (Mid-size or Full size cars)
  • Can-Am
    • Chassis - OSCAR Chassis and Rules
    • Motor – Any Fk or standard 16D (No Supers)
    • Track – Cannot exceed body width at widest part of wheel opening
    • Bodies – Any car raced in the Can-Am or USRRC

 

 

  • Womp, Legend
    • Chassis – Solid (no slits or slots)
    • Front Axle – Solid (no independent spinning wheel)
    • Motor – Fox motor #8635
    • No ball bearings
    • 48 pitch gears
    • Bodies – Legend
    • Tires Diameter Front .75 inches, Rear .79 inches
    • Track – Front and Rear 3.25 inches
    • Front tire width minimum of .5 inches
