Eight slot-heads showed up to race Vintage ProTrack and Legends at STR on 4/1/24. The track had been cleaned and sprayed since the last contest and conditions were good.
This class features plastic models of full and mid-size cars from 50-69. Chassis for this class is either the old brass ProTrack or modern H&R. Many competitors have upgraded to the Cheetah 4 motor which seems to produce times about .2 seconds/lap faster than the Falcon 4s. Look for all in the field to make the switch at some point.
Rich managed hold off a closing Mark for the win; the gap was less than a half of a lap. Ron, Bob, Joe and Nick were closely matched, all having a shot at the final spot on the podium. In the end, Ron prevailed with the aforementioned nipping at his heels (only a couple of laps separated this group).
Images and results of the race are shown below.
Womp Legends are a new class at STR and the brainchild of Mark Colby and Bob Hanna. Specifications are tightly controlled so that racing would be close and competitive. Only basic Womp chassis will be allowed (no slits or slots). Power is supplied by the Fox 4 motor (26,500 RPM #8635).
Since only one Legends race has been held prior to the latest event, several participants are still sorting out their rides and managed personal bests in the current contest. That being said, the rocket ships in the field belong to Joe and Terry.
Although Joe outdistanced the field by about 3.5 laps, others were closely bunched with about a lap separating each participant. Terry ran a personal best to finish second (his second trip to the podium in the two Legends events). Bob was third.
Editor’s Note: Legends fast lap times have been updated.
