I never thought I'd get a chance to own an original Magwinder rail, let alone two. (Well, one Magnesium the other aluminium.)

Seller knew nothing about their history other than he acquired them in Famoso from an estate sale.

Beautiful magwinders, Lee.

Didn't see those listed...

I was the only watcher for the hour and a half that I spent negotiating their purchase and shipping, all the while I was praying no one placed the opening $9.99 bid.

Your prayers were answered... not to mention we're in the same time zone, so it wasn't that either.

I'm sure I would have bid something if I had seen these...

Afraid not Dave, seller bought from estate sale & I've drawn a blank so far in the old drag reports from MCS etc. I will keep looking and if I find anything I will post here.

Lee,

By late 64, early 65, I believe, just about all the motors featured were already Ram or used a Ram 7-pole arm. Since these both have 5-pole Pittman arms, they were either a bit earlier, or else also-rans, at least for the major drag meets covered in the mags. They don't quite seem in the style of the winning rails either, but that's just an impression.

I don't remember the exact date offhand, but I know I was struck by how quickly Ram displaced Pittman and dominated most big drag races. They also don't seem to follow the usual trend of grinding down the laminations (except for a bit on one of them), which seems to have been done more often than actuallyl removing lams... but maybe somebody who was there can pitch in here with some actual experience! Drag racing was never big at the local tracks where I raced in Chicago, and I had enough trouble trying to make a normal inline, without having to worry about a magwinder!
